Kem Sokha, Don't Chase Political Ambitions With Independent Group

Thursday, January 18, 2007

Letter to the Editor
The Cambodia Daily

In "Kem Sokha Contemplates a Political Comeback" (Jan 8, page 16), Cambodian Center for Human Rights President Kem Sokha announced that he is considering forming a new political party. He was quoted as declaring: "I think that in Cambodia now, there is no democratic party," and "Recently, whenever I go somewhere, when I join a forum, the Cambodian people request me to form a party."

This is not the first time that Kem Sokha, whose organization is funded with international assistance to defend human rights on a non-political basis, has made highly political statements.

In "Sam Rainsy Promises To Help Relocated People" (July 31, page 15), he was quoted as saying: "Demonstrations are his [Sam Rainsy’s] career.... He pushes people and when violence occurs he flees."

Under the banner of a respected human rights organization, Kem Sokha has been preparing a political comeback and attacking his potential political rivals for some time already.

It is anybody's right to form apolitical party and to nurture political ambitions. But it is unfair and dishonest of Kem Sokha to pursue a political and personal agenda by using the resources of a supposedly non-partisan organization that is financed by international assistance intended for ensuring the well-being of all Cambodians.

The temptation is too much for anyone to bear, especially when there is no effective opposition to the ruling party.

Kem Sokha has been a monkey jumping from several moving boats with coconut in hands for some times. He still can't figure out what to do with coconut just yet.

Now he wants to run Cambodia like Son Sann, Sam Rainsy or Hun Sen and alone.

    Again, you are witnessing
the "Power struggling" by a bunch
    of idiots.

When was the last time you ever
    heard anyone talking about helping
to create jobs for the millions
    needies who currently begging
for money all over our country?
I am telling you right now that
half of our issues will dissapeared
by itself if we can get people
of the street. You don't have to
be a rocket scientist to know this.

They are just Evil in an Angel
mask. They are not going to do
what they say if can control
    the country. Take the "land
    grabbing" issue that we have,
for example, how can they solve
this problem ,when many of them
are land dealers? Wake up, people.

7:26 PM, Tell me your opinion to earn jobs for Cambodian people in such a corrupt and land-grabbing government!!! How would you do if you don't have power in planning? and how would you do if you have power to plan national strategies?

This is why we should talk about this political situation.

What should be role of ruling party and of opposition party?

I agree that Kem Sokha seems to be bias in his role as independent body in favor of his own political ambition. If he wants to do so, leave that institution first.

We know we have land grabbing
corruption, and we are doing the
best we can do for it. When I look
back 10 years ago, it was much
worse. This is not rocket science.
This is what poverty do to you.
    People become criminal from
    greed...

You think it is easy to solve this
    problem but it is not.

    We all know poor neigborhood
    everywhere is very troublesome.
Go and fix that first, and when
you succeed, you can come to help
    us. Meanwhile, please stop
    dreaming, okay.

As to getting job for people,
it aint easy either. You must
    travel to different country to
    build friendship. Tell them how
    cambodia can help their company
    to succeed ....
But it will not work if we are
    constantly at each other throat
    with accusation ... and power
struggling. Do you know what I
mean? Who in their right mind
    would want to invest millions
    in such environment.

Okay, here's the deal: if you
can't help, just stay out and
    don't impede against our progress.
Here we are trying to bring in
    bussinesses and idiots making
stupid noises ... and deter most
    bussinesses away.

And if you can't do much, just
help us keep think calm. Is that
    too much to ask?
