Hun Sen: If they can’t curse, lightning will strike them

Everyday.com.kh
Translated from Khmer by Socheata

Prime Minister Hun Sen criticized some politicians who lost the election, and then went on to insult [his party] by wanting to topple the CPP in 2008. In a speech given at an assembly held by the Ministry of Agriculture on Monday, Hun Sen said that for some people, if they cannot think about toppling the CPP, then lightning would strike them. Hun Sen added that earlier, there was a man, if he can’t curse others, would lightning strike him? Hun Sen also sneered at some political parties which claimed that if their party win, they will distribute the government rubber plantations to people. Does such promise make sense? [Hun Sen asked.] The government rubber plantations is only 40,000 hectares, if each person receive one hectare, besides the 40,000-hectare rubber plantations, what else is there to distribute to the million of other families? Wherever they can lie, they will lie in their own way. Hun Sen added: These people (opposition), if they don’t lie, they have nothing else to do, because for some people, as soon as they sit down, they start talking bad about others. There are some who are even 70-80-90 years old, they are still like that, if they don’t criticize others a little bit, lightning will strike them.

Nope, that is not what he meant.
What he meant is these people is
    so addicted to creating false
    roumors that they think lighting
    will strike them unless they
    created roumors.

Anyway, yes, I agree with somdach
Hun Sen 100%, especially for ah
    gringoes' slaves. Those people
live and feed on roumors and
speculations. If we take that away
from them they will all die, hahaha, LOL, hahaha, ROFLMAO.

Cambodians need to learn to distinguish between "cursing" (tche) and "criticising"(titean). Criticising is not cursing. Criticising is somewhat neutral while cursing conveys hate and insult.

In democracies everybody has the right to critise the government, its policies and the behaviour of public personalities. Furthermore, aspiring to topple rulers or the ruling party and rule the country in their place, is the essence of entering politics and/or forming a political party. There is nothing wrong with that. Even Sdech Kon who is a role model for some people toppled the king when he thought the king's rulership was bad and he could offer a better rulership.

Cambodian rulers should learn to be smarter.

to all those cpp blind suckers, to you all accusations levelled against your leaders and party are blind accusations anyway. nothing is positive criticism. even protesting agaisnt the yuon encroachment is blind accusation.

it seems like your peoiple got a long way to learn - people canpt criticise their leaders without copping bullets other forms of violent backlashes from the leaders. kr are not easy to be reformed in a civilized society.

It is interesting to note here that
Lao give us a lecture about free
speech in 1:58, but he has no
    comment on "False Accusation". I
am sure he got something under his
sleeve. It will soon to come out,
don't worry, hehehe. You can't hide
    anything from Khmer People.

yuon grinos, you still don't get the deifference between false accusation and positive criticism.

you use that term false accusation on all your critics. but when you allow yuon sluts to come to cambodia, land grab, kill off forests, ppoh on Tonlesap, you call development.

Well, that is better than to let it
be destroyed by wild fire like in
the US every year. Here, at least
they used it to better the region.
Moreover, now we got more land
    for economic development after
the useless forest is gone. Get it?

So what is your positive criticism?

    CNN news last night
Mr Goh Chok Tong, PM of Singapore is paid $ 2.1 miilion per year.
    Mr George W.Bush, US's President $ 400,000 per year .
Mr Tony Blair, PM of Great Britain $ 370,000 per year .

    My question :
Samdech Dr Hun Sen ,PM of Cambodia less than $ 20,000 per year.
Samdech Dr Hun Sen had built so many schools from his Money and donated a lot of Bi-Cheng,sarong to Khmer-People
    ..........How ?
    He's must be a Khmer-Billionaire.

7:35, there is something wrong with
your CNN figure. I read that George
Bush's salary is in the millions
also, but that is not important for
us (khmers). Just wanted to let
    you know, that is all.

As for Hun Sen's salary vs. his
status, many have asked the same
question as you do. And it is
not a bad question. When you are
    a Prime Minister, You have
    influences to help protecting
    corporations from ridiculous abuse,
law suit, and strikes ... . Without
such protection, you know fair well
that the Evil Sam Rainsy will abused
the hell out of our corporations.
And to get protection, many many
    corporations funded his bank
account, as though they are paying
    insurance against a natural
disasters if you know what I mean.
And that is Real Politic 101 for
    ya.

    To 2:05 and 2:12

    Thank you for your question.
One can use truth to defeat falsehood. Don't you think? Victims of false accusations can offer truth to defeat falsehood or resort to an independent and impartial judge or even the impartial public to find truth to defeat falsehood for them. In this case equanimity or imparticality or upkkha is very much required.

Furthermore, those who falsely accuse others will defeat themselves in the end. They are liars, and as a Khmer saying has it, he who lies will be defeated (phoot chreun chreun chanh athma). Do you share this piece of Khmer wisdom? I do.

Please do keep challenging one another. We'll arrive at the truth someday.

Thank for your feedback, Lao, but
regretfully, I am not clear of
your answer. Help me understand a
bit more of what you are conveying.
Allowed me to give you a likely
situation: You are a familly bread
shop owner. I am your new
    competitor. I advertised to people
in the territory that your bread
    contains toxic elements that could
    effect people health and caused
your sale to dip or even forced
you out of bussiness. Is this free
speech? How would you handle such
    a case?

I'd file a lawsuit against such a competitor. In democracies there is a law to protect people from such harm. It should be added that in such countries people don't use bad or fowl language in public, and rulers and ruled are equal before the law and are protected equally by the law. This is one aspect of the rule of law.

Dr. Lao, thank you for your honest
opinion, and yes, me too, I would
do the same thing. Moreover, I have
    polled many merchants with a
similar scenario, and they are in
full suport of such action as you
    yourself would take. So please,
let us not forget that lawsuit
    against defamors or slanderers is
not immoral in anyway or form.
