The Norodom Ranariddh Party (NRP) sent a request for an audience with King Norodom Sihamoni to hand over to him a petition for a pardon for Prince Norodom Ranariddh. The prince was sentenced by the Phnom Penh municipal court to 18-month jail for breach of trust in the sale of Funcinpec party headquarters. The Cambodia Daily reported that Muth Chantha, NRP spokesman, said that the NRP sent a letter to the Royal Palace to request for an audience with the King by 19 NRP delegates. Khieu Kanharith, the Minister of Information and government spokesman, said that the NRP has the right to ask the king for pardon, but he declined to provide further detail. Nouv Sovathero, Funcinpec spokesman, said that the king should not pardon Prince Ranariddh. He said that the king is neutral to all political parties, and the king is considered as a father figure, therefore, he should not say who is right and who is wrong.

It's very sad to see the same prince keep asking for royal pardon, the first time from the King Father in 1998, and then again from the King Son in 2007.
Will he do it again in another 10 years?

Is the royal pardon not being abused by some politicians and other prominent people?

How about such royal pardon for those less promonent people who have been lingering in jail for crimes they may not have committed? Who are fighting for for that pardon for them?

Those prominent people who have granted royal pardon should take the lead to reform our judiciary, our police and our prison so that they no loner serve as instruments of repression, and protect all and do justice to all.

Usually, we can ask the king to pardon to people with political crimes and small crime for ordinary people. Rannarith was not a political crime. He has cimmitted with fraudulents and corruptions. Therefore he should be sent to court for justice. He cannot ask the king for pardon and then to be the leader of the Nation. What kind law and rule of this country? Why there are so many people who are now in jail and why the king didn't give them pardon and will give only to Rannarith. He should be retired from politic and stay in exile if he wouldn't want to be in fighting with the court case. We must build a country with one standard for all. Areak Prey

Good point, 3:45, but I think it is
immoral for the King not to pardon
    his half-brother. Family should
do everything they can to protect
    all members.

Anyway, about a year ago, I read a
report about a man caught a rapist
in the act of raping his daughter,
and the man killed the rapist with
an axes. As a result, they've
sentenced the man to 18 years
jail. What do you think about
that? The way I see it is now we
    have 2 people being victimized:
one by the rapist, and the other,
the system. I believe this is
    evil, and the King should
pardonned the man. Frankly, I am
still a bit bothered by the case.

Why NRP is so naive? .They should know by now THAT SIHAMONY is a POWERLESS KING. The king will never pardon anyone UNLESS he consult with HUN SEN first.IF,the king dare to do so,he'll risk losing his throne altogether, who know?.
We,all, should have known by now that HUN SEN is the LAW of the LAND at this MOMENT.

The only solution for RANARITH now is so simple. Every NRP MEMBERS should go and kiss HUN SEN's ass now for his forgiveness ( only if he want too ) do otherwise will never work....Be honest ,i kinda like HUN SEN for one reason only ; THE SON OF A POOR PEASANT REALLY DOMINATE THE POLITICAL LANDSCAPE of CAMBODIA and it is unprecedented. But, it's kind sad the P.M seem to forget his HUMBLE BEGINNING.....

I am sure that PM Hun Sen
    understands the necessity of family
must protect its members. PM will
    have done the same thing.

    Anyway, after the pardon, the
    royalists must put pressure on
Somdach Ranarith to cool it for
the Royalist sake. I don't think
Monarchy will last too long in
Cambodia if they keep up with these
craps, and it will have nothing to
    do with the CPP either.
