Rainy Season Brings Worries of Water-Related Diseases

Health officials said last week the onset of the rainy season can increase the risk of water-related diseases, but a dengue fever outbreak in Ratanakkiri province had been brought under control.

Dengue fever, a mosquito-borne illness that increases in the rainy season, was still a concern in at least six provinces, health officials said, and was on the rise in Kampong Cham, Kandal and Takeo provinces.

The monsoons, whose rains wash more chemicals and contagions into potential drinking water and create increased breeding ponds for mosquitoes, are a time of worry for disease experts.

Okay, make sure there are enough
mosquito nets for everyone. If you
get bit in a certain area, just
move away about 8 meters or so.
That is what I have been doing
and I haven't had any mosquito
    followed me so far.

    More importantly, make sure there
are plenty of aquatic lifes such
as fish, tadpole, ..., and what
have you that feed on mosquito
lava to keep them from hatching.
Try to stock it in every pond,
river, canal, ... , and see if
    that will help.

    I wasn't talking about food,
stupid. I try to recommend to
people on how to avoid dengue
    fever.

In a way, excessive mosquitoes is
    a natural disaster; therefore, I
urge the Red Cross to get involved
with the ministry of health to
    help people to avoiding fatal
    disease until we solve this
    problem.

Anyhow, I urge our ministry of
    fisheries to strongly boost up
    fish farming and stocking
    throughout the entire nation. You
can't lose. Worst comes to worst,
at least, we got plenty fishes to
    eat, hehehe. Remember, we need
    fishes and frogs everywhere, in
    the irregation cannal, river,
    pond, and even puddle, LOL.
