The government is awaiting an official response from the US Embassy on whether they should deport an American citizen following a threatening letter, police said Thursday.
National Police Chief Gen. Hok Lundy told VOA Khmer Thursday that Deputy Prime Minister Sar Kheng had sent an official request to the US Embassy asking whether police should deport Gerald Francis Forbes, 63, who is being held by immigration police.
Forbes was detained Wednesday after he confessed to writing a letter to the English-language Cambodia Daily outlining an alleged attack plan against the US Embassy, police said.
"Forbes will be deported three days from now if we receive a response from the US Embassy," Hok Lundy said.
Embassy officials could not be reached for comment Thursday, but officials have said they do not consider the letter a credible threat.
The Cambodia Daily published parts of the letter Thursday, signed by a "Francis Chow," who warned of a "rocket attack followed by an attempt to overrun the embassy grounds" by "local forces."
"I am a friend of the American government and just passing along what information was overheard in a local restaurant last night," the letter said, according to the Cambodia Daily.

Even though that embassy considered that letter is not a credible threat, embassy shall do their own investigation, fact findings about the motive of the letter and reply to request of the hoist country what they want to do with their own citizen.
ReplyDeleteWOW YOU SHOULD BE AN INTERNATIONAL ADVISOR OR ROKET SCIENTIST 4:33AM.
ReplyDeleteDear 4:56 AM
ReplyDeleteDon't need to be international adviser or rocket scientist to understand that rule of foreign country on "assistant to their citizen in case of crisis while abroad", which most country on the globe does and USA is one one them - never want to see their citizen being locked up in foreign jail and certainly they did in the past extradite pedophile back to face charges in their country.
I can't blame the American Vet because he lives on fix income and he has bills to pay! Please send the money quickly and on time next time because he doesn't have many more years to live and to enjoy what is on Earth!

ReplyDeleteSympathize with your idea on American Vet.
This is the failed policy of US administration, loves to send their men and women to war [either for democracy, terror or security of the country], but when the Vet are back at home soil they are/have been treated as a war hero but simply a piece of trash and burden. It's no wonder why Vet is taking matter into their hand sometime, to feed up with government bureaucrat and red tape
