Phnom Penh - A Cambodian developer plans to build a new airport on the country's largest island, which was leased to his company by the government in 2008, local media reported Wednesday. Kith Meng, chairman of Royal Group, told the Phnom Penh Post newspaper that bulldozers had been sent to the 7,800-hectare island to clear forest for a runway, but he declined to provide more details on the development.

He said the company also plans to construct electricity and water facilities for the island, which has been earmarked as a potential tourist destination.

Kith Meng said he recently travelled to the island with a dozen other potential investors, including casino owner Phu Kok An, who is also a senator for the ruling Cambodian People's Party.

Let me clarify for all of you. Khmer Knong Srok are rich because majority of them are corrupted people. They don't pay taxes, not like Khmer Krout Srok pays a heavy taxes to our adopted government. That's why where we live are more safer than where they live. We live in the free world and can buy anything we want because we live in the democracy country, not living under one man gangster rule.

Let Kith Meng expand his financial and his business and you will see one day his business will collapse. Westerner rich business people file bankcruptcy everyday and they're more educated people too. Still their companies go burst. I just wait and see how Kith Meng do for his business. When he reaches the paramid, he will fall down from that paramid.

Too much expansion it's not a good way to do business. Look at Donald Trump as example.

Are all of you guys not thinking of having more jobs for people to do?
Having the island developed means more jobs for people and we will not scared of loosing that land to any neighbor. Do you want to keep the island isolated with no development and invaded by Youn or Thai? Don't just only criticize!

I believe this island belongs to Vietnam. Don't believe what you have had learned in the past about the history, or others told you, but the island is the property of Vietnam.

4:18pm, i wonder how long that's going to last because it once belonged to cambodia but changed hand; and i'm sure it will change hand again in the future. nothing is set in stone, especially in regards to stolen property like cambodia's koh tral. one day cambodia will get it back for sure, only history will tell! khmer people will always call it koh tral, not phuc cock or whatever! god bless cambodia.

The island -- historically speaking -- is, again, the property of vietnam inarguably; also, since this island belongs to its proper owner (Vietnam), I would suggest you and others not to waste time holding you breath (for the returning of the island to Cambodia), unless Cambodia is willing to prepare for the unintended consequences. Try it, if you (still) don't believe me. But don't telll me that I didn't tell you.
