Official Denies Statements at US Rights Hearing

Ouch Borith: A master of "truth spinning"?

By Chun Sakada and Men Kimseng
Original reports from Phnom Penh and Washington
16 September 2009

A Foreign Affairs official dismissed as false statements made to US Congress by Sam Rainsy Party lawmaker Mu Sochua, in a human rights hearing last week.

Mu Sochua’s description of a country where democracy was a “façade” was meant “only for cheating the Cambodian people,” said Uch Borith, a secretary of state for the ministry, told reporters at a press conference after meeting with US Ambassador Carol Rodley.

He also denied reports on a Web site called Khmer Intelligence KI-Media that US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would send a delegation to investigate rights issues.

The Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission invited three prominent Cambodians to testify on Thursday, after noting a worrying trend in the erosion of rights and freedoms in the media.

Mu Sochua and another opposition lawmaker had their parliamentary immunity revoked earlier this, as the courts pursued lawsuits against them by senior officials; and at least one opposition journalist is in jail after accusing senior officials of corruption.

Meanwhile, a US congressman said Cambodian government representatives should have been invited to the hearing last week should the US wish to see changes in Cambodia’s human rights record.

“I do not believe that holding a hearing that gives voice to the opposition party and excludes the ruling party is the way for us to proceed in affecting change in Cambodia,” Eni Faleomavaega, a Democrat from Samoa, said in a statement issued on the day of a hearing conducted by Tom Lantos Human Rights commission. “I also do not believe that any Commission should usurp the role of the US Department of State or the diplomatic relations we have established between our two countries.”

    ACID ATTACK ON TAT MARINA
Cambodian People's Party Hun Sen Khmer Rouge Regime had committed acid attack.
"On December 5, 1999, Tat Marina, age 16, was severely disfigured in an acid attack in Phnom Penh. The attack was allegedly committed by Khun Sophal, the wife of a senior government official, Svay Sitha, because she was angry her husband had a sexual relationship with Tat Marina. Neither Khun Sophal nor those suspected of being her accomplices in the attack were brought to justice. Intense media publicity compelled the Phnom Penh Municipal Court to issue an arrest warrant for Khun Sophal for attempted murder, but the police claimed that they could not locate her, although journalists reported that she was living at home as usual."

TORTURE AND MURDER ON PRAK SITHA WHILE IN CUSTODY BY MISNISTRY OF INTERIOR OFFICIAL
Cambodian People's Party Hun Sen Khmer Rouge Regime had committed torture and murder.
"On the night of January 16, 2003, a street youth named Prak Sitha was beaten to death at the Ministry of Interior (MOI) headquarters after he was arrested and detained by off-duty MOI officers on suspicion of theft. His body - bearing numerous injuries to the head, torso, arms, and legs - was dumped at a Phnom Penh pagoda the following morning by ministry officers, in violation of police regulations regarding deaths in custody. No criminal charges were filed in connection with this death. In December 2004, the case was cited by the UN secretary-general's special representative for human rights in Cambodia - who stated that Prak Sitha died at the ministry "following beatings by a known police officer" - as an example of a "consistent and continuing pattern of impunity" in Cambodia."

"On September 4, 2008, Mean Sokchea, a RCAF major working in Brigade 70, shot dead 21-year-old waitress Put Samphors at a restaurant in Kandal province. Mean Sokchea, in a drunken stupor, fired his gun and apparently mistakenly hit Put Samphors in the stomach. She was taken to a hospital but later died of her wounds. Mean Sokchea was detained by the police overnight but was then released, allegedly after intervention by Hing Bun Heang. Put Samphor's family received US$2,700 from Mean Sokchea, and the police told them that their daughter was shot while authorities were chasing robbers."

There is nothing strange about this dictatorial government's well-fed dogs. They must bark and bark it loud enough to deny the hurtful truth; otherwise, they will be demoted. Even the very poorly-fed dogs like New Phally, Krama Man Krohorm Kor still bark.

The poor Khmer people understand that only the opposition MPs will courageously step forward to voice for them as this government's dogs mercilessly bite them. The opposition party is the only hope for Khmer people in general to be able to make their living happily in the future. If there is no opposition party, this country will belong solely to Hun Sen's families and his criminal cronies. These devils don't care about the welfare of Khmer people, as long as they are rich and happy. They are no better than leeches!

Eh,Mr.Borith! you see in this forum who say good things about you and about today government.I don't care who you are and I don't give a fuck and I don't really give no respects to anybody who work as a dog.I'm Khmer and I'm younger than you,no degree like you, but I'm proud to be who I am. At least,I'm not a crook, I'm not a dog, I'm not a puppet and I'm not a traitor.I've been throught Khmer Rouge's times, Heng Somrin's times and I know enough. Now I'm living in Lowell, Mass,USA and I visited Cambodia five times already and I know what exactly happened in Cambodia and for Cambodians. Honestly, I don't take side or I'm even not a SR's member or not even any political party, but I support SR's party ideas, I support freedom of speech, I support democracy, and I support justice. Again, I don't give a fuck to whoever living abroad and got Master degree or PHD then go to fuck around, kiss ass to get star... then do corruptions, married with young wife, forget kids and old mommy eating welfares, then claims that I am patriotism... my ass. I'm sorry for those of you who are not kind of the people I mentioned above, and I apologized. Finally, I just wish Cambodians and Cambodia had better future, had real freedom ,had real democracy and had justice for all...
