Representatives for Human Rights NGOs plan to attend a yearly meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, at the beginning of December. The meeting will also be focused on the current situation of human rights violation in Cambodia.
Major NGO activists who will attend the meeting include: Dr. Pung Chiv Kek, Licadho president, and Thun Saray, Adhoc president.
Prior to her departure, Dr. Pung Chiv Kek said that she plans to raise a number of issues during the upcoming meeting. “Land dispute problems in Cambodia, freedom of expression, freedom in the various lawsuits, and the freedom to receive information, even though these freedoms are the bases of the convention for the people’s rights and political rights, I want to see Cambodia clearly put into application this convention,” Dr. Pung Chiv Kek said.
Yim Sovann, SRP MP and SRP spokesman, said that he wants to see SRP MPs being invited to attend the meeting also. “To find a resolution, we must do all we can so that Cambodia does not lose face due to human rights violations because it strongly reflects on our economy, as well as on social and political development in the country,” Yim Sovann indicated.
There is no indication as to whether the Cambodian government plans to send a government representative or Om Yentieng, chairman of the government human rights committee, to attend this meeting.
Tith Sothea, a government advisor and a member of the Press and Quick Reaction Unit of the Council of Ministers said: “I can say that the human rights situation in Cambodia is good, and criticisms on the human rights situation in Cambodia deteriorating is a wrong evaluation. We cannot accept them,” he claimed.
The yearly UN Human Rights Council meeting will take place in Geneva, Switzerland. It will take place on 01 December and it will be attended by 40 important countries that are members of the advisory committee.
The upcoming review of the respect of human rights situation is taking place at the same time when various sources, such as the civil society and international organizations, are criticizing land-grabbing, use of violence in raids, tightening of the freedom of expression, lawsuits against government critics, and lifting of parliamentary immunity of opposition MPs – such as the cases of Mr. Sam Rainsy, Mr. Ho Vann and Mrs. Mu Sochua – that took place in 2009.

I can't stand to see this picture. The wife and children were looking on her husband, the father, who was beaten by KHMER SOLDIERS. My tear run down. It reminded a paintful past. Please the world help the poor the weakness.

We are advancing today mainly because Sam Ransy and NGOs are talking and tell the world what happening in Cambodia and make Hun Sen afraid. Before Hun Sen does harmful things to poor people, he must think twice. But this crook man still does many bad things.
ReplyDeleteWithout Sam Ransy and NGO speaking, can you imagin what would Cambodia have been? Maybe worst than Khmer Rough when Cambodia was closed up from the outside world.
So if Sam Ransy says right or wrong, it is mirror for government to reflect its action. So Sam Ransy plays important role in building democracy and prosperity in Cambodia. Without Sam Ransy, Hun Sen will be free horse rider. No body dare to say anything.
You must see the whole picture. For any society to be prosperious, ther must be someone to observe and talk and someone is doer.
Even if Sam Ransy becomes a prime minister, there must be someone to observe his action and talk. If not, Sam Ransy coud be worse than Hun Sen. This is my opinion.
Hun Sen' police are the same as Khmer Rough's police. They persecute poor people without mercy. They secretly come under your house to listen what you are talking. They kill many innocent people in the name of order from their boss. If you ask them (police) why are you doing like this? They would answer, we do this from our boss's order. It is like Duch said. He did it because it was order from his boss.
ReplyDeleteSo I think that the courst decides to put Duch in jail is a good idea so that this will teach all of the police to be careful when implementing order. Which order is good and which order is bad. Police has brain too. they must use brain to judge right from wrong not just follow stupid order from stupid and uneducated boss.
I observe onl the difference between Hun Sens' police and Khmer Rough police is their uniform. Khmer Rough's uniform was black and Hun Sen police's uniform is blue and green. But the way they persecut, kill innocent people are the same.
I want to see the police get a beating for once. Lets see how they like it. All they have to do is arrest people and not hurt them. Are they police officers or common thugs? Even thugs act better.

ReplyDeleteCambodian society is saturated with violence expressed in all its varied forms and contexts. The perpetrators shown in this disturbing picture is far from being uncommon; it is in fairness a phenomenon characteristic of a post-war nation, but exacerbated by a general failure on the part of central authorities to communicate and legislate its will through civic, consensual mediums.
ReplyDeleteIn most post-WW2 nations in North-Western Europe, for instance, people and state acted responsibly in that both parties had had to rearrange and modify their administrative resources and priorities to meet a sudden sea change in social realities i.e. the transformation from war to peace time. The British people, for example, even ditched the ruling party of their war-time hero of Winston Churchill by electing the Opposition into office. Present-day Israel is even able to maintain democratic institutions despite being overwhelmed by daily security and military concerns; and what is even more remarkable is that the same institutions had been built amidst constant hostilities and tension by survivors of the European holocaust.
Whereas proponents of one-party rule argue against political pluralism and consensus politics seeing these forces as luxuries and divisive, the Israelite model points to a far more practical and at the same instance progressive arrangement.
It goes without saying that autocratic regimes are often synonymous with cult of personalities whose frequent self-indulgent pronouncements and utterances, however vain, nonsensical or perplexing are elevated to the apotheosis of divine laws and edicts with instant effect. But, how does all this affect the life of an average man, woman or child? Well, most dictators, sadly, are induced by delusion of grandeur and self-reflected glory which they see manifest before them in a given social order - this could be a pyramid, a temple, a successful battle or a series of construction projects such as roads, bridges or skyscrapers. Where there are signs that such an order is questioned or disturbed be it to do with aggrieved villagers or recalcitrant political opponents, the threat thus posed to this sanctified order is severe and unfathomable in the Ruler's mind and hence the violent reaction.
We know of the pliability of a child's mind, how easily images of adult violence could have lasting imprints and scars on him or her, let alone being at the receiving end of such brutality. For the sake of Cambodia's future, one hopes that more and more of 'law enforcement' personnel will receive appropriate training through seminars that focus on conflict resolution and non-violent approach to civil protest. The 'PM' could also help out by relaying his televised speeches - typically laden with venomous violence - to a later time after most children have gone to bed.

If you are real Khmer solders or real Khmer polices go and fight at the border to protect our sovereignty against Yuon and Thai.
