However, the US refused to recognize the Cambodian border and declared that, " the border dispute between Cambodia and her neighbors is for Cambodia to solves and the American policy is only to protect indochina from communism." The king's number concern is Cambodia will not continuing to exist as a nation. It was out of that fear that lead him to sided with China. For him China is not a favorable one due to the fact that China is communist and communist's main enemies are bourgeoisie and religions. Basically, Communist China against almost everythings what he stands for. However, he willing to sacrify everything for the sake of Cambodia to continue existing as a nation. Despite the fact that the outcome from siding with China is not a favorable one, however to acuse him as a traitor is absurd. And constanly write negatively about him only benefit the very people that we suppose to fight against. From my point of view Sdach Sihanouk and Lok Sam Rainsy, who recently pulled out six border poles in khum Samrong, Srok Chantrea, and Khet Svay Rieng, were in the same position. Both did not agree with the new demarcation.

king sihanouk...is a great hero for cambodia...since he got independent for our beloved land...he also got many "khet" back from thai....and he had been helped many poor cambodian through his charity better than ankor borei who has done nothing for cambodia...not even dig a well....

But did you read Sdach Sihanouk's article: "Les faiblesses et erreurs fatales du S.R.N. surtout par son Président" (17 janvier 2007). He ended his article by saying: "A tous ces égards, je me comportais en aveugle et idiot" (sic).
What do you think ? How about the loss of Kampuchea Krom to Baodai in 1949, the Killing Fields starting from April 17, 1975 and the Supplemental Treaty of 2005 ?

When king Sihanouk made a deicision to side with china, not out of a choice of luxury but out of necessity. It's more of a delima than a true choice. First of all Cambodia does not have the resource or military might to defense herself from the two larger countries that never cease continuing to nible away at Cambodian teritories. Secondly, the relationship with the US never been beneficial to Cambodia because the US, like the French, always favor the Thai and Viet on the expense of Cambodia. To the US, Thai and viet are an inexpendable partners to a war against Communism. King Sihanouk stated many times that the US is his number one choice of a relationship. However, the US refused to recognize the Cambodian border and declared that, " the border dispute between Cambodia and her neighbors is for Cambodia to solves and the American policy is only to protect indochina from communism." The king's number concern is Cambodia will not continuing to exist as a nation. It was out of that fear that lead him to sided with China. For him China is not a favorable one due to the fact that China is communist and communist's main enemies are bourgeoisie and religions. Basically, Communist China against almost everythings what he stands for. However, he willing to sacrify everything for the sake of Cambodia to continue existing as a nation. Despite the fact that the outcome from siding with China is not a favorable one, however to acuse him as a traitor is absurd. And constanly write negatively about him only benefit the very people that we suppose to fight against. With all due respect, I wish mr Ly Diep would use his brain for contructive purposes instead of trying to devide Khmer apart with his fragmented information.

ReplyDeleteYou can come to Sihanouk's defense all you want but to me Sihanouk was still murderer of 2 Million Khmers during 1975-79 era. Hun Sen was former Khmer Rouge Commander but Sihanouk was head of state of the Khmer Rouge regime at that time, during which the two million Khmers died. As head of state, he had to be held accountable for Khmer Rouge's action.

Please understand that I am not trying to defense Sihanouk. I have no interest of doing so because there is no benefit to sihanouk, to me or to the country that I love. But what I'm trying to defense is the truth. And I strongly believe that most of us that come to read on this website, to a certain extend, do care for Cambodia. We attacked each other not because of hatred that we have for each other but because think that our idea is best suited to serve Cambodia's interest based on a thinking that only we possess the truth. We fight and killed each other before a fallen of a single enemy.
