Cambodia opposition leader is sentenced

Sam Rainsy, the leader of Cambodia’s largest opposition party, has been sentenced to two years in jail after a closed court found him guilty of pulling up posts used to demarcate the border between Cambodia and Vietnam.

Mr Rainsy, currently in Paris, said the conviction was politically motivated. He had led a protest last October to highlight what he said was land encroachment by Vietnam.

“I don’t care about this sentence,” Mr Rainsy said. “I will continue to fight for justice for Cambodians who are victimised by land grabbing, including border encroachment.”

Parliament, which is dominated by the Cambodian People’s party of Hun Sen, prime minister, lifted Mr Rainsy’s parliamentary immunity so he could be tried on charges of destruction of public property and inciting a criminal act.

Two villagers who accompanied Mr Rainsy on the protest were sentenced to a year in prison each.

Human rights groups say the CPP uses its control over parliament and politicised courts to intimidate the opposition. “Hun Sen was looking for an excuse to have Sam Rainsy removed from parliament and marginalised,” said Brad Adams, Asia director for Human Rights Watch.

The government said the courts made decisions independent of any outside influence.

HM Sihanouk's mansion near the independence monument was used as an Embassy of North Korea. When the contract expired several years ago, HM mentioned that he wanted his mansion to turn into a national museum for all Khmers after he passed away. Somehow, that mansion was demolished and became a nice prestigeous lot for Hun Sen's new mansion (the one he intended to use for Thaksin's guest house). If anyone has any information regarding this story, please share!

Someone please deliver this message to all those CPP cronies; the most corrupted officials in the world. Be warned we know each and everyone of you, where u live, where you eat, and even where all your mistresses are. So you can hide and pretend to be a dumb ass all you want. Your time will come soon enough - your days are numbered, I pity your innocent family, kids. You have no shame, and you call yourself Khmer? You better off being a Viet slave that you. In fact, you better start contemplating about hiding yourself there.. somewhere deep underground- soon to be your only safe haven. Haha..that is until we nuke you to hell.

    God bless!

This CPP regime is becoming more and more a fool to the Cambodian people, the world and its own members. It prides itself in its stupidity and ignorance. As it acts out its own Shakespearean tragi-comedic play, the people suffer and Khmer dignity is dragged through the feces infested mud. The CPP is committing national suicide... there is no difference between the Khmer Rouge mentality and that of the current regime. The Khmer people do not want to be known by its stupid leaders, but we are now if we don't respond to this stupidity by voting out these ignorant beasts.

From 27th January 2010 onward, Xam Rainxy is a convicted criminal.

It's so obvious for criminal, they have never admitted their crime but at the same time, they always try to say or show something to cover up their crime but no matter what they crying out, no one is going to believe or take criminal's word seriously.

Since Xam Rainxy has uprooting border markings, he is often said that he will take this border's issue to International Court, but so far, there is no International Court. Right now, through interview with Radio Free Asia, he is shameless mentioned about International Court again. When he will complaint to International Court?? As I am aware, International Court in Xam Rainxy's view could be in Beijing and the judge is former King Sihanouk.
