Cambodia tells diplomats it is no 'banana republic'

PHNOM PENH — The Cambodian government has told all foreign diplomatic envoys to avoid criticising the country, insisting it is not a "banana republic", in a letter seen by AFP Wednesday.

The foreign ministry letter sent to all diplomatic missions in Cambodia asked them to "avoid interfering in the internal affairs" of the country, regardless of the power of their home nations.

"There have been many occasions, in which some heads of diplomatic missions behaved like a 'proconsul' of his/her country to the Kingdom of Cambodia. They indulged themselves to criticise or to give lessons to the Royal Government of Cambodia," the letter said.

"Such behaviours are not acceptable for Cambodia as a sovereign country and a member of the United Nations. Cambodia is not a BANANA REPUBLIC," it added.

Asked about the letter dated April 26, foreign ministry spokesman Koy Kuong told AFP it was issued to remind all diplomats not to "exceed the limit of their mandate".

Cambodia last month threatened to expel a United Nations envoy if UN agencies continued "unacceptable interference" in the country.

The move came after UN agencies in Cambodia urged "a transparent and participatory" process as parliament debated an anti-corruption law that was criticised by the opposition and rights groups.

Ranked one of the world's most corrupt countries, Cambodia passed the anti-graft law in parliament on March 11, more than 15 years after legislation was first proposed, but only days after the draft was shared publicly.

When copanies pay money to Cambodian ministers to invest in Cambodia, Cambodia is a Republic of banana.
When prime minister creates laws and parliment is just a band of monkeys having nothing to say, the country is the Republic of banana.

If I am running the government I'll cleaning up the illegal alien from Vietnam or do something for the benefits of Cambodia. Hun Sen is a puppet of Hanoi and never change mentality from the Communist regime. That's why I call it Communist People Party ( CPP ) NOT Cambodian People Party.

When UN and embassy express concerns over some issues, Hun Sen govt. thinks they interfere internal issues. When UN did not say anything, HunSen govt. said they were lazy and did not perform its work.

When ADB, WB, or IRI produced survey report and found out govt or CPP were unpopular, the Hun Sen govt said they were stupid and did not know how to conduct research. When the results showed that govt and CPP was doing right, HUn Sen said it was correct report.

Our leaders are so retarded in leading the country. They are thinking that "this is Cambodia, it is a sovereign state, there is sovereignty, no outsider can interfere, the Royal Government of Cambodia's performance, even though govt kills Cambodia people because govt has power over people, and sovereignty from being criticised by foreign state."

It is a good new to hear our gov't trying to defense for our nation and country by not allowing others of step all over us!. It has been long enough for the outsiders to take advantage of our downfall and to devalue our way of life. Mainly it is like "you deprived me from all kinds of freedom and then condemned me by saying that I am stupid". One other thing that our gov't needs to know is, they have treated our education as "unequal, unparalleled", this is a form of degrading. Khmer must move toward the Aust, NZ, Singa and Japan way of life and try to integrate their skills so that it can be compatible. I really don't want to see our people suffer no more, please may god help us all and guide us into the right direction, Amen. Aust
