“I cannot withdraw my stance. I am a victim. Why must I pay a fine?”: Mu Sochua

Hun Sen Pushes for Mu Sochua Fine

Chun Sakada, VOA Khmer
Phnom Penh Monday, 14 June 2010

“I cannot withdraw my stance. I am a victim. Why must I pay a fine?”
An attorney for Prime Minister Hun Sen submitted a request to Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Monday demanding opposition lawmaker Mu Sochua pay $2,000 she owes the premier for defamation.

The request was a sign the prime minister will not relent on the compensation, which is part of a $4,500 court-ordered fine upheld by the Supreme Court this month. The court must now officially inform Mu Sochua of a time limit for the compensation, officials said.

Mu Sochua told VOA Khmer she has no intention of paying the fine, which stems from a pair of defamation suits brought by each party last year.

“I have been persistent in my stance in not paying the $4,500 fine, ordered by a court that did not provide justice to me,” she said. “I cannot withdraw my stance. I am a victim. Why must I pay a fine?”

    Mu Sochua,

You live under Hun Sen's regime and you should know better than what you're doing. The only person who can save your ASS is Ah Khwah Hun Sen and not Ah Khmao Obama. Raise the money, pay the fine and move on. Prepare your political strategy to face him again in 2013 election. If not, you have no chance.

Ms. Mu, you have zero chance if you don't pay the fine. Time is running out! Pay the fine, or risk your life in jail. What's gonna be? Don't expect the U.S government will bail you out, not even Obama or Hilary. You're on your own now, Lady. Go back to US and put the Khmer politic behind. Good Luck!

    Compatriots!

This is beyond a civil matter, the question is what should be prevailed?

Seeking justice and continue to persue,or takes the alternative?

To PM,he is a strongman regardless. He will wish to be seen as strongman. And that what he perceives anyway

There are more to achieve to help disadvantaged cambodians.Unless you have more mechanisms to assist you claim that would complete in a short time frame. Otherwise you would be better of loosing for the winning causes.

It has been a big remark in relation to POWER abuses that become a NORM in cambodia. But this habit has to be changed and continues to be changed.

Social organisations in cambodia and abroad sympathise your cause.
This ultimately upto the king to see whether it is to be ceased in order to progress further. But the king appears to be undecisive,or best approach would be forwarding this issue to resolve the matter.

Best possible way it just to pay the fine and move on.It does not mean that you loose the cause, rather pursue in alternative way that relevant to time and political circumstances.

We all know for fact that majority of Cambodians do not have peace,PEACE OF MIND. Cambodia is not at any stage of civil war, but PEACE is not complety achieved.

Abuses and poverty are to be abolished by any political means,or should any political party.Unfortunately, there are so many political games played, for the sake of indivdual interests.

Bad Karma will haunt them at the end, when they are less demonised by demon(Viets).

ONLY NOW I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY CAMBODIAN TERRITORY HAS SHRUNK TO MUCH SMALLER THAN TODAY. ONLY THE FRENCH STOPPED THIS AND INCREASED IT TO THE CURRENT SIZE. THIS IS THE FIGHTING SPIRIT OF THE KHMERS. FROM NOTHING THEY DEVELOPED IT TO A BIG STORY JUST TO SERVE THE POPULARITY OF POLITICIANS AND PUT THE CAMBODIAN PEOPLE AS THEIR HOSTAGES.

You want to cast yourself as a "victim" instead of taking responsibility for your own words of defamation. As a Member of Parliament you are duty bound to follow the law, so I would guess that the next step to your quest for victimhood is to be kicked out of the National Assembly.
Perhaps then you can gain even more status among your supports.

It is not the money, it is the principle behind the corrupt verdict.

I can't wait to see how this will play out. She should not have picked a fight with Roun Sen. Just a waste of time and diversion from focusing on other matters. Now it is too late.

If Mrs. Sochua stands her ground to the end, even if it means serving jail time, my respect for her will go up high. It will prove she is a person of principle.

I'm sorry to admit, but Cambodia is a land whose people and culture value little for righteous principles, which is true for Buddhist nations like Thailand, Burma etc.

In any political arena, a politician must have developed thick skin.

In Mu Sochua's case, she let Roun Sen's comments got the best of her.
She does not need to score point with him.

Mu Sochua, next time just brush the chip of innuendo off your shoulder and move on. Just stay focus on the tasks you know are important.

This clueless lady doesn't know a thing about the game of chess that "one eyed" Hun Sen plays. What is she thinking going to court trying beat a trial against Hun Sen? The court was built by him. Not one person who works in there nor on jury duty would dare weigh his blind ass wrong. So if this lady wants to be "pra hoen" an unskillful daredevil, she should pay up or prepare for prison in prey sar just like the woman whom pulled a pistol and fired shots in the air following the altercation with her husband at the Karaoke bar. Falsely claiming that she was connected to Heng Samrin landed her sorry ass in jail as well. So if you're a woman in Cambodia, and you want to play tough, hardball, and be an invicible "strongwoman" be prepared to be unjustified!!

The prime minister and law enforcement officials have demonstrated restraint, patience, and shrewdness with this woman; however, our patience has its limits, and therefore it is judicious not to push it.
