Supporters for Mrs. Mu Sochua will organize a roundtable discussion at the beginning of next week after they raised more than 10 million riels to help Mrs. Mu Sochua pay the compensation for Hun Xen in lieu of the impoundment of her parliamentary salary.

The Grassroot Movement of Cambodian Women indicated that on 24 July that people from all walk of life, including factory workers, sex workers, moto taxi drivers and numerous citizens have collected more than 10 million riels to pay the compensation for Hun Xen in lieu of the impoundment of Mrs. Mu Sochua’s parliamentary salary, should Mrs. Mu Sochua agree to that.

Ms. Arun Rasmey said on that on Tuesday 27 July, the Grassroot Movement of Cambodian Women will organize a roundtable discussion at the Baitong Restaurant in Phnom Penh to decide on what to do with the more than 10 million riels raised. However, the group’s main goal is to use this fund to pay for Hun Xen’s compensation as ordered by the Phnom Penh municipal court in lieu of having Mrs. Mu Sochua’s parliamentary salary being impounded, if Mrs. Mu Sochua agrees to the group’s request.

Ms. Arun Rasmey indicated: “We insist that Mrs. Mu Sochua accept our effort. We did not provide the fund to her yet. After I held a press conference on the 14th (of July), Mrs. Mu Sochua declared vehemently that she will not accept this fund and she thanked us for that.”

On 24 July, RFA could not reach Mrs. Mu Sochua to obtain her comment on this issue. However on 21 July, Mrs. Mu Sochua indicated that she would not agree to the impoundment of her salary, and if the National Assembly indeed impounds her salary, then it would be a rights violation on a member of parliament.

On 20 July, Judge Chea Sok Hieng of the Phnom Penh municipal court sent a request to the National Assembly to impound Mrs. Mu Sochua’s salary, taking out 4,004,899 riels out of her salary each month to pay for Hun Xen’s compensation.

Ou Virak, President of the Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR), said that it is a good thing that a women group shows their opinions to help women in politics. “The fact that they dare collect (money) to express their support for Mrs. Mu Sochua or a woman politician, in general, it is a good thing for Cambodia. We hope that all political parties will support such movement and such action,” Ou Virak said.

Recently, the CCHR issued a legal analysis regarding the case of Mrs. Mu Sochua, saying the court was not independent because the court is filled with high-ranking officials from the CPP and a number of judges have influence over the court legal system, this clearly shows the relationship between the court and Hun Xen’s political party.

If all those people able to raise money, it should go to the poor and help the community instead of paying for the rich lady. I understand her stance, but she able to pay the fine herself! Don't take from the poor and give to the rich.

Its not about the money .. its about right and wrong . She got the money and she will pay her own money if she was wrong . Thanks to her supporters for doing her a big favor , but her stance has not benn changed. No guilty no pay and I agree with her 100 %

Nobody force them. If they are willing to make some contribution for the sake of democracy, then it's up their choice. They don't need your advice, 1:18AM. You might not know why these dirt poor people help Mr. Mu. It's their patriotism! These poor think they'd rather go to heaven in rags than to hell in embroidery.

It is kind for the Grassroot Movement of Cambodian Women to organize this fund raising event, however, they missed the point by thinking this is about money; it is truely about finding justice in Cambodia. Should there be two justics system: one for the well-connected and powerful or anyone with money to buy or pay their way out of their problems and then another justics just for the poor who have neither money or political influence nationally or internationally?

0 riel from CPP corrupted servants,
Many millions of riels from poor Cambodians.
    Why ?
Because Mrs Muo, you're them, you're their hero..

Very sorry for the poor that give these money...they could use for getting better food for their children or buy books and school supply for their children's education. This kind of minepulation by the career politicion is not moral toward those people they suppose to help. They are no less that minipulative political conduct by the CPP...Ms. Mu, please stop milking from Khmer's poor - they are suffer enough...you are corrupting their mind. First make sure that these people get enough food for their children first...before you lead them to high moral ground....Ms Mu - this is your moral responsibility for being their representative...

17 Cambodians to Pursue U.S. Graduate Degrees As Fulbright Scholars in 2010 - 2011

    Released June 22, 2010

Members of the press are invited to attend the opening ceremony of the pre-departure orientation for new Fulbright Scholars to be held on Wednesday, June 23th at 9:00 AM in the Embassy's main conference room. Ambassador Carol A. Rodley and H.E. Pheoung Sackana, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, will preside over the opening ceremony. After the opening session, the scholars will be available for individual interviews with the press.

For the 2010-2011 academic year, 17 Cambodian scholars will pursue graduate studies in the United States. This number includes 7 new scholars and 10 scholars currently in the U.S.

The Fulbright Program was established by the U.S. Congress in 1945 as a means “to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.” The Fulbright Fellowship program was re-instituted in Cambodia in 1994. Since that time, 114 Cambodian students have pursued programs of graduate study in the U.S., and more than 30 American Senior Scholars and Specialists have come to Cambodia to work in local universities. For 2010, the U.S. State Department increased the allocation for the Cambodian Fulbright Program to $500,000.

Several Fulbright returnees are working in key positions in the Ministries of Finance, Agriculture and Natural Resources Preservation, and Interior. Many others are lecturers at different universities and national program officers for health and other rural development programs under the auspices of a variety of international and non-governmental organizations.

Members of the press wishing to attend the opening session should confirm their attendance by 2:00 pm on June 22th by contacting the Embassy's Public Affairs Section by e-mail at ChreaV@state.gov or by telephone at 023-728-258. Members of the press are requested to arrive at the Embassy by at least 08:00 am in order to clear security.

    2:25PM,
Do you really not know whom you should give your advice to, ha? It's Hun Xen, his families, and his unscupulous comrades who have robbed and deprive the innocent poor of their land, who have allowed Yuons to steal our natural resources, our people's land along the border, and who have committed the most crimes this country of ours. All the people who help Mr. Mu, know how far they can go, but Hun Xen and his comrades have no enless ambition, and therefore they have no where they can stop; you should tell them where to stop, as now a lot of our are crying at full throttle because they have been hert and harmed beyond their andurance. Can you give your good advices to Hun Xen and his families and his comrades???

Is Mr. Sam Rainsy ready to pay his crime for uprooting border post?

If he is ready, it will cost him between $12000-$20000 U.S dllars, base only in minor crimes.

Thus, we can negociate with the court to allow him return to Cambodia.

If she was fighting because she was standing up for some other poor folks, there would be some credibility, but because she was called a "srey cheung klaing?"

And she feels sorry for herself because the guy made that comment? Check something about Sarah Pailin, she has been made fun off all over the media, we don't see she went after anyone for defamation!

To 3:10 am and the rest of those who respond to 2:25 am - from 2:25 a.m.

Hay - thanks for taking an interest on my comment Pertaining to Ms. Mu. Just make it clears I am support those politicients that take their responsibility seriousely according to their title, but not those that use their title to do harm to Khmer people that less fortunate than oneself (include CPP, SRP,HRP,etc..). First, I know that Ms. Mu does not raise this 10 million riels herself...those people that supporting her is opportunist - those Khmers that give either 500 riels or 1000 riels, this is indeed out of their kindness heart and really want to see our country change from the current regime (my heart is going out to them all). I definately support Ms. Mu in standing against Hunsen interm of given a trensparency with Khmer's court system, but her case is not about money - just like one of our discussioner mention abovet!! These money really from the Khmer's poor that they could use these money for their children. By the way -have of you gone or live in Cambodia since after first National election in 1993????...Have you really walk the street of Phnom Penh and Khmer on the country side and really see those poor people with your eyes and your heart??? To all the respond to 2:25 am...think beyond Ms. Mu and to those jumping fast to use Ms. Mu to raise money for her(these people are opportunist - in the Long run, they will use her name to raise momey for their own benefit)....in addition, this kind of respond to political event...will not sustain...Just look back to Cambodian after 1993 national election - you have to give the CPP good political strategy...within four years they were able to take back all the power..in a decade...they are able to have absolute power....I don't need to say more...you have to be able to see and has political plan in 1, 3, 10, 15 and event 20 yrs a head...otherwise one will be serve those that have political plan...
