Two SRP activists who were accused of spreading anti-government leaflets in Phnom Pen on 11 August have fled to Thailand.

Chan Soveth, an official for the Adhoc human rights group, told RFA on 16 August that Chea Sok Cheam and Mrs. Chea Daly arrived in Thailand already in order to avoid being arrested by the Cambodian cops. The pair were accused of distributing anti-government leaflets in Phnom Penh on 11 August.

Chan Soveth added that the pair are concerned about their safety and they would like to return back to Cambodia if they receive the guarantee that the cops will not arrest them.

On 11 August, the Phnom Penh cops arrested a suspect and confiscated leaflets criticizing the government leaders, accusing these leaders’ cooperation led to the lost of Cambodian territories to Vietnam.

Touch Naroth, the Phnom Penh police commissioner, told RFA on Monday that the cops already sent the case of the two SRP activists to the tribunal already. He declined to provide details in this case.

The SRP rejected the accusation made by the cops claiming that its activists were involved in the distribution of these leaflets. He said that this is a political accusation intended to threaten SRP activists.

Kul Panha, the executive director of the Comfrel NGO, said on Monday that the Cambodian cops should educate the suspects involved with the distribution of the leaflets rather than arresting them. He said that the distribution of these leaflets is merely an expression of opinion, and the content of the leaflet does not affect significantly the government.

In Ausgust alone, at least 7 opposition activists have been accused by the Cambodian government cops of distributing false information and of sabotage.

UNTAC What have you done to Cambodia?

Nearly 30 years later Cambodian are being threatened, hold hostage, and once again some of us are once again refugees.

When can we see at least a tiny glimpse of hope at the end of this man-made hellhole?

Khmer it is time to rethink our destiny, it is not how "long" we must live but how "well" we should live.

”Those two motherfuckers wanted to start a civil war or something? Run for your lives assholes.” This is a Youn’s comment.
    8:07 PM ,
You are, Youn, the one who started a war; and now it still currently exists, in Cambodia. We, Khmer, will make a war to make peace. You do not scold them like that. It will go back to you a thousand times, Ah Youn.
    Time comes will tell…

That reminds me of leaflets criticizing the government under then Prince Sihanouk during the years '60. There were no internet then, and a lot less newspapers, radio or tv channels. That was the start of the KR revolution. KR activists at that time were simply put in jail at Prey Sar. Now activists can escape to Thailand and possibly, go to the third country.

However, this not KR, Destroyed Cambodia. We are Konn Khmer Nationalism; we want Khmer to be free from Youn.

The couple knows that the legal channels (opposition representatives in parliament, internet, electronic and printed media etc.) are useless??? So both of them decided to rely on leaflets and ready for Thailand, and from there a third country. Is it really more efficient? Don't know, but at least they are in a relative safe place, for now. And hope that life will be better after that.

Perhaps some of you are too young not to know that Charles de Gaulle (the France's President from 1959-1569) and some of his armies started the war from England and later won a complete victory. It's patriotism/national conscience that motivate all patriots to act against the tyrants, despite they know how dangerous their acts would be. Up the the nationalists! Be perished the tyrants!
