Only balding ole boys and ole gals in this "ole Boy" Scouts group?

Xok An (2nd from left) presenting the scout's scarf to Phay Siphan, his mouthpiece, on 01 June 2010. It's interesting to note that no pictures of children/youths who were presented with scarfs were shown in the youth-oriented event, only that of the chief and his indian. (Photo: PQRU)

OUR SINCERE APOLOGIES TO Reader Wattanak:

Yes, Sir, you are right, we erred. So ladies and gentlemen, please read the correct caption as follows:

Xok An (2nd from left) presenting the scout's scarf to Phay Siphan, his mouthpiece, on 01 June 2010. It's interesting to note that no pictures of children/youths who were presented with scarfs were shown in the youth-oriented event, only that of the thief and his thief (oops another mistake, we meant: "of the chief and his mischief")

Closing Remarks by Ambassador Carol Rodley at Academic Symposium

I’d like to thank all of the participants for making this such a fascinating and productive two days of discussions. It was unprecedented to gather such a group of experts on the U.S.-Cambodia relationship, and the discussions indeed lived up to the billing.

A lot has happened over the past 60 years, of course, and many of the key events we discussed resonated beyond Cambodia’s borders. But what struck me more than any single event was the resilience that we saw in those 60 years.

First, there was the resilience of the Cambodian people. They have shown great optimism and determination to endure decades of turmoil and come out on the other side, ready to build a prosperous and democratic nation.

The U.S.-Cambodian relationship has shown its share of resilience, too. As one would expect with any relationship between two nations, there were high points and missteps, periods of strength and periods of misunderstanding.

But the relationship has endured, and it is stronger now than it has ever been before. We are partnering in many areas that promote our common interests, including military and law enforcement cooperation, counterterrorism and POW/MIA matters, and economic development, among many others.

The United States is providing over $105 million in assistance this year, which includes programs in health, education, economic development and accountability in government. U.S. assistance is supporting the Royal Government of Cambodia’s humanitarian and development priorities, just as it did nearly 60 years ago when the original aid program was launched in 1955.

As we look forward to the next 60 years, I believe we have much to be optimistic about. We look forward to increasing and deepening our ties and working toward our mutual goals. While there is still much work to be done, I am confident that our common interests will see us through to an even stronger future together. Thank you.

What's wrong with these idiots in Cambodia? All they care about is "trumpeting" themselves. How they look, how many Ph.d's they buy or how many virgins they screw. All along while the country is moving backward. These Khmer rouge just changed their black clothes to suit and ties.

    Mr. 5:58 AM,

It is very rude to tell people here to shut up.

First of all, you are very well contradicting yourself by telling someone here to shut up, someone who may be older or even much older than you. Should I say then, using your own words that everybody minus you respects the elderly in Cambodia.

Second, the world is moving towards in the direction which honors freedom of speech and promotion of free expression so don't tell people to shut up as they may tell you the same thing.

This is probably the first time I'm going to disagree with KI Media over their commentaries. "...only that of the chief and his indian". THere is no indian in the CPP, KI Media. Only Chiefs. That's why the country is the way it is. Everyone is a chief of something or other, but nobody does any real work. All the chiefs are there to collect their official salaries, which they then partly use to suppress dissents in those below them, and partly use to pay those above them so their positions are safe. So what about money to live on and to buy those damned lexuses? Well, their wives, who are also chiefs in their own rights, are "good at business". That is the way it has always been, and the way that it will be with this wretched group. So there KI Media, next time be more thorough.

I remember how much Sihanouk despised us for being other than his "Jeuness de Sangkum Reastr Niyum Khmer".

And now these cummunist scums? Boy Scout Club members? What a farce!

Everything in Phnom Penh is a toxic and shameless dog and pony show.

    8:13am,

I couldn;t agree with you more. These ccp politicians are looking out for themselves. They should stay out of it and recruit youths to join the boy scout club. But anything is possible in Cambodia's post-communist era. As shown in this picture old man like Phay Siphan officially recognized by his master Sok An for what level of achievement? In America Boy Scouts are for kids to join so that they learn to serve their community.
