7 January = K5(KO PRAM)

We never forget the KO PRAM which started from 1982 to 1989.

Khmer people ,including WOMEN and WIDOWS, were mobolized to work in the border areas to build STRTEGIC ROADS.

No one protested the K5 because there was a CLEAR WARNING: " Who are against the KO PRAM ARE TRAITORS TO THE COUNTRY".

Many hundred of Khmer people died from work accidents, Land mines and Malaria. It was the Hell like the KR regime.

The CPP always praises the 7 january but never mentions the K5. Hypocrite!

Sorry a mistake: Not many hundred, but " many hundred of thousand people died from the K5...

this is a controversial holiday in cambodia; not everybody is celebrating! there should be a debate about this holiday because both arguments make a lot of sense, depending how one views this issue.

it was good that the vietnamese army recruited khmer people to help them to topple the atrocious KR regime. the only problem was that the vietnamese invading armed forces overstayed their welcome, and instead forced cambodia to pledge allegiance to vietnam gov't which was historically unpopular in cambodia and the khmer people. it took the paris peace accord to force the vietnamese occupation from cambodia. that said, however, the cambodian people were glad to see the KR regime ousted of power in cambodia for their policy was too extreme and harsh for cambodia and khmer people that resulted in millions of khmer people dying from starvation, execution, diseases, exhaustion from the slave labor camps, etc... under the stupid, backward KR regime policy. now, how stupid can they be to kill and deprieved their own people? thus, i think it is good that some cambodian people were celebrating the end of the KR regime. on the other hand, some khmer people also hated the idea that the vietnamese armed forces invaded and took over cambodia until the paris peace treaty forced them from cambodia. as a result, that was unpopular and many khmer people viewed the vietnamese invading armed forces as occupation, not so much as liberation as khmer people do not see any good benefit for cambodia that the vietnamese armed forces took over cambodia. i mean as greatful as khmer people are for the vietnam to send its armed forces to help cambodia, but khmer people should not celebrate that as a way to thank vietnam for invading cambodia. that said, even gratitude and a sense of vietnamese heroism shouldn't last forever in the heart and mind of khmer people. there ought to be enough is enough already.

cambodia needs to debate and talk about this controversial holiday so people can hear both point of views or both arguments. thank you.

b/c they lie to khmer. Where were hunxen, chea xim, and henxam rin when yuon invaded cambodia On january 7, 1979?...remember i was there standing and watching the yuon and the RK shooting each other. Let remember that when the US leberated Kuwait from Iraq, Kuwait never use that day for celebration like the CPPEE yuon slave.
1993 is the good day for khmer celebration. 1975 and 1979 were just the yuon trict and manipution, b/c vear dare ter knouch.

to celebrate surviving the KR is one thing, but to celebrate the recognition and praising of the vietnamese invaded forces is not right. it make cambodia look like we owed our lives to the vietnamese thieves. that aren't right! maybe cambodia should call this date " the end of the KR rule date" not "liberation day" or something along that line as at all khmer people are happy about vietnam invaded cambodia. perhaps, we can help to educate our khmer people to understand this difference interpretation.

keep in mind that vietnam was cambodia's historical enemy, that's why most khmer people are having problem praising vietnam on this date. people need to understand this! didn't the lost of khmer krom lands remind us, khmer, of this? there is nothing good about the vietnamese invading cambodia! we shouldn't call jan 7th as "liberation day", instead, why not call it, " the end of the KR rule day" so everybody can be satisfied and happy.

Celebrating or Omitting it depends on who leads the country and which party holds as many as seats in the National Assembly. As long as CPP still wins the election, without doubt 7 January has been celebrated every year. On the other hand, in case (but no way) the opponent parties were almost fully trusted by the people, automatically they could erase it from the history of liberation or from national holiday.

Those who oppose the 7 January are legally former Khmer Rouge; are people who fled Cambodia before 17 April 1975; are basically opponent parties. They do not lose anyone in the killing fields, they pretend not to recognize it and mostly some oversea people who are trying to forget that date.

7 January is Celebration's Day that many people believe it saved their life. From that date till the First National Election was the period of some people like to say invasion. I believe it was a regime controlled over by the Communist Vietnamese Ideology. Whereas what you people shout out loud today in KI: corruption, human trafficking, drugs, or prostitution, is caused by small groups but powerful who you people identify as CPP people.

Thus in short there 3 things: celebration, regime, and current situation. I do not try to get these 3 into one otherwise I am perhaps one of some Khmer overseas or a man trying not to understand.

Happy New Year, Bravo 30th Anniversary of Liberation.
