Even my Papa was siding with my worst enemy, Sim Var, against me and the SRN: King-Father

Translated from French by Tola Ek

Declaration from
Norodom Sihanouk of Cambodia
Beijing, P.R. of China, 19 April 2009

Some journalists (French and other Westerners) just started to re-launch their “War” against me, Norodom Sihanouk, by accusing me of being extremely corrupt, a dictator, greedy, bloodthirsty (while I detained power in Cambodia).

In this regard, allow me to give (once again) to my beloved Compatriots and to the International Community (to the foreign Personalities, the ladies and gentlemen, the foreigners who are interested in Cambodia and in N. Sihanouk) the following details:

1- My “Dictatorship” (??):

1a- I abdicated (In 1955) following a referendum held at the national Cambodian scale which provided the following results: more than 90% of the voting age Khmer citizens approved the (positive) results of my “Royal Crusade for the Total Independence of Cambodia.”

1b- I abdicated (in 1955) in order to unify the Khmer nation (a French proverb said: “United we stand”) and to found a movement for national union, for national edification by counting on our own forces, on ourselves, our own works, efforts and sacrifices; a movement of defense, without any compromise on the National and total Independence, of the “current” land and borders of Cambodia, on the territorial Integrity of the Homeland, on Peace (Pancha Sila=the 5 principles of peaceful coexistence); an anti-colonial, anti-neo-colonial, anti-imperialist, anti-expansionist, anti-domination movement. This movement was called the Sangkum (or Saingkum) Reastr Niyum, with the acronym: SRN or S.R.N.

1b- “My Dictatorship” (??): At the 1955 general legislative election, under International control (President: India, a non-aligned country; Members: Poland (from the communist camp) & Canada (from the camp of the “western”, “free world” countries), the SRN received 82% of the votes, the Democrat Party obtained 13% of the votes, the Pracheachon Party (communist) obtained 3% of the votes.

1c- In conformance to the stipulations of the election law in Cambodia and the rules of the National Assembly, the elected MPs (who were voted in from the general legislative election cited above) occupied their seats at the National Assembly.

As it turned out, all these elected MPs were Sihanoukists.

The mandate of these MPs was 4 years.

At the end of the first year, my worst enemy, Mr. Sim Var (a “chum” of the other anti-Sihanouk: Mr. Son Ngoc Thanh, KKK= Khmer from Kampuchea Krom) obtained from my father, H.M. King Preah Norodom Suramarit, a Kret (royal decree) announcing the dissolution of the National Assembly.

In the Royal Kret above, there was no explanation about such dissolution. However, in public, Mr. Sim Var “explained” that this dissolution was due to the fact that the National Assembly was “too Sihanoukist”!!!!!

1d- One year following this dissolution, there was in Cambodia a new general legislative election.

In 1958 again, we had a National Assembly made up only of Sihanoukists.

The Democrat Party abstained from presenting itself to this new general legislative election because, most likely, it estimated that its defeat would be inevitable in front of Sihanoukist voters. One portion of this party rallied to the SRN.

The Pracheachon Party (pro-Vietminh communist Khmers) had the courage to present itself at this new general legislative election, but it only obtained 1% of the votes.

The new total victory of the SRN, obtained without contest in a very democratic, very legal manner, had the effect of enraging Mr. Sim Var … who was clever enough to register with the SRN. This Sim Var decided then to leave Cambodia by asking me to name him Ambassador of the Khmer Kingdom to Japan. I gave him satisfaction.
x
x x
In all these “stories,” one can see that there was no “Dictatorship” from my part (quite to the contrary!) and that the Khmer People alone decided, in all their sovereignty and freedom, to give me and the SRN the state powers. As for the King, my own Papa, he was with Sim Var against me and the SRN.

Before “closing this chapter,” allow me to remind here a very important historical fact: It was me, the SRN, the government and the SRN National Assembly that, in 1955, gave the same RIGHTS and POWERS – political, legislative, governmental – to Cambodian WOMEN as those for the men.

But, up to now, none of the Khmer women had the fair play to recall this [fact].

(To be continued)

(Signed) Norodom Sihanouk

Leave The King GrandTa alone. He is old and needs a good rest in peaceful mind and he always be respectful for the whole nation. I am sick of hearing this same thing for decades and sitll no where out of the tennel. You cannot live in the past! It is time to move on, there are lots of issue to get fixed in the current situation in Cambodia, people are still poor, children use drugs, heavy drink drunk over the place, no jobs, traffic chao with many accidents and crimes are rising, so and so. Lets do something for the better living. I mean help your self in the right way the same as help the country and its people. tom

10:38 AM,

It was him who would not leave anyone alone, even the long ago dead men still cannot escape his rants...it is called "chheam sraek sbaek hao" The king seems to be trying in vain to get the attention and approval, perhaps most parts are from his guilty conscience - after all, he had done a big wrong by propping up the KR and convincing them/the poor peasants to kill so many innocent Phnom Penh residents. It does not matter how desparately he tries to blow his own horn, history has already record his deeds...the only good thing he could do now is to re-concile and admit his wrongs...

Hang on! why you people who live, earn and will die in Canada, France make a decision go and serve Cambodia. It is opened and welcomed there, take Mr.Samrangsy as a sample! Doesn't matter how much you are trying open your unjudgable mouth about the ex.King and The Prime Minister sort of. I tell you what The ex.King, The Prime Minister and other national herors have been working hard for these honor positons. Oh what have you done for the country so far? Sneaky and run away for the envent, you are uncapable for these! The ex.King cannot be replacable, he is a symbol of Cambodia! All my wishes to leave the Mesjesty to be happy for the rest of his life.

11:16 AM, I will always keep in my mind the vision of your "cher grand roi-pere" in his black pajamas and tire sandals and the memories of those who I had perished under his KR "kon chaos" murderous and bloody hands. If he has been that great, he should not keep on word-fighting with little people...

Your beloved grand royal-father is in deed very old, and he always thinks of himself (not other people) for his own righteousness and glorification - and pardon my French, that shit is never going to happen because people are not that dumb. It is your grand royal-father who is obsessed with this kind of "tit-for-tat" dialogue.

The Khmer Rouge get the military supplies from the Khmer Republic Army. The Khmer Republic army get it from the US Army.
My mind the Vietnamese and US Army, both were the big supporters of the Khmer Rouge grass root.
Please use your brain and analyze the facts, who were the real Killer of the Khmer Citizen ?

My Letter to Somdech Ta N. Sihanouk,

I am really appreciate with the political narrative Samdech Ta recalls during his heyday. Of course, Somdech Ta's information is useful for younger generation like me and other Cambodian friends. Personally, I have learned about Somdech Ta's political career at least from few different sources:

1. From the elders who admired Somdech Ta as their hero and extraordinary man in their life span. Some elders boasted themselves about their lucky to see Samdech Ta in person, some boasted themselves about their lucky to have touched Samdech Ta's hand and they felt cold, tender and unforgettable etc. Some elders boasted about their lucky to get white scarf as their precious gift from Samdech Ta. They also showed me this white scarf as it is still kept in their sacred alter to worship. There are many other extraordinary appearances, words and kindness about Samdech Ta.

When I was young, I dream of Samdech Ta's face and kindness as he is named "Samdech Euy". We are his Koun Chao (children & grand children) has to pay respect and be humble to him.

In that time, I was too amazed by the fame and narratives told by the elders.

2. I learned about Somdech Ta from school. It is unbelievable that though Samdech Ta sided with Pol Pot to fight against CPP along the Cambodia-Thai border. The text book in that time condemned only Pol Pot, Ieng Sary and Kiev Samphan as the main devils. This hatred propaganda spread entirely and it had always seduced the young adults to go carry guns and kill all those Khmer Rouge leaders. However, I learned at school is not different from the narrative of elders about Samdech Ta. Samdech Ta's figure was always exceptional.

3. I learned about Samdech Ta from my own research and reading. Many analytical books describe Samdech Ta in different volumes. However, their intellectual and analytical writing has left some significant remarks about Samdech Ta N. Sihanouk:

3.1. He is a king father, the universal monarchy of Cambodians. He is the hero of war, peace and uncertainty. He is also the King, the prime minister, the prisoner, the singer, dancer, movie maker, and blogger. He is also the father of independence as well as the father of Khmer Rouge brutality.

3.1. He is the populist and demagogic political leader, the sweetest public speaker, the flip-flopper, the manipulator, the cheater, and the revenged...etc

3.2. He has played a great role model as a Cambodian political leader who has always used populist strategy, anti-democratic principle, violence-prone leadership style, and personal-centric decision making etc

3.3. Many later Cambodian leaders have used the style of King Father as their role model. For example, current Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has copied almost every aspect of leadership from Samdech Ta namely using his so-called personal funds to build schools, roads, bridges, hospitals, and temples by inscribing his name and spouse there.

Like elders told me, Samdech Ta is very kind because he gave all his personal property from the smallest gifts to the building of national infrastructures such as schools, roads, hospitals and temples etc. Now, elders have not mentioned this charity activity referring to Samdech Ta anymore, peoples have always admired Prime Minister Hun Sen for his charity activities. So, we can see the Samdech Ta and Prime Minister Hun Sen have used the same strategy to legitimize the power. But what is new for all of us is the political shift changing from Monarchical Charity to Ordinary People Charity (or from King Sihanouk to ordinary Hun Sen).

Will Cambodia live with this leadership style to another unpredictable years or not? Cambodia will be better through this leadership example or not?

Samdech Ta is not different from Hun Sen and his team works who have always used the same political rhetoric. For instance, they said "Pol Pot desired to get Khmer Krom back that why Vietnam attacked them, Cambodian people in abroad are good in speaking but have done nothing to Cambodian nation, the speakers are good in speaking but the doers are still doing to care Cambodia nation", or many other rhetoric which is considered childish rhetoric to fool the Cambodian farmers.

This simple childish rhetoric has been used since the reign of Samdech Ta, and it has been continually used by Lon Nol, Pol Pot, and current Hun Sen.

So, how long this childish rhetoric will be used in Cambodia politics? To be a good Cambodian leaders, do this rhetoric is important or nonsense?

From analytical analysis's point of view, Samdech Ta is just a Father of himself and remote Cambodian farmers in current Cambodia politics. But in reality, real Samdech Ta's flesh and bone have already been fleshed out by Hun Sen. There is analogy study of Taksin Shinawatra who has tried to de-popularize Thai King Phummibol in the meantime that Hun Sen is trying to de-popularize Khmer King Sihanouk.

It is logical to the concept of political competition that "one cave should exist only one tiger". The cave of political popularity cannot be two in the political arena.

But Thaksin is facing difficult challenge, while Hun Sen is freely riding on his victorious seat.

Samdech Ta can spend his last breath to favor whoever has given him a shade as part of Cambodian practice, paying gratitude is authentic. But Samdech Ta has also faced the reality that this shade is not a genuine shade for him any more.

I wish Samdech Ta can see this reality and do something meaningful for his last blink in this world.

You have betrayed Buddha,why?

" Finally Buddha our supreme boss said well that the ignorance is the source of the suffering, it lights(enlightens) that the ambition is a shape of this ignorance to cause non-stop the misfortune of the Cambodians because the ambition of their leaders to obtain the power with life and to aim at expansionism of their neighbours lasts for a very long time, but thanks to the truth Buddha was able to leave this circle of the suffering and to reach the elimination thus "

History of Cambodia shows that many politicians who criticize Samdech Ov/Ta about his wrong leadership, when they came to power what did they do for the country and people? Lon Nol: corruption and dictatorship was clearly seen in Phnom Penh ( I was only 11-12 years old) but I saw by my own eye demonstration again this government laomost every day, military trucka\s and forces caught high school students to force them to join army. The second group is Khmer Rouge --- you see how badly they destroyed the country and people. the next one similar destoryed all natural resources and so on.. Be reasonable our Khmer partriots you are are not better than the former King in the situation of under pressure of all powerfull countries and the bad neiboring countries. what should you have done if you were the leader of Cambodia? I agree with some of the comments think for future rather than try to dig more past issues. To solve all past issues may be all Cambodia will be disappeared. You see the recent history, alot of Khmer oversea when they came to power how much corrupt they were? from Taxi driver to ministers to tycoons... How do they earn the money. If they are real country loving people they will use their knowledge for country reconstruction rather than builing their personal empire..Just small comment. In khmer simple proverb "no one better than other" all are bad. So please build the new generation of Cambodian people in a right way for our small pity country.

Look at Thai land they take their country away from the world wars all the way, first their government use the bamboo strategy go by the strong win(super power)Or learn how to live like Israel scarifying lives property or every things for the country not like Hun Sen everything for his pocket or Sihaknuk everything for his popularizations less thinking about country ,took a lot valuable times for girls ,movies ,song composer and romantic with many wives. This KIND OF LEADERS PLEASE SAY NO NO NO. If we live by the devil neighbors we learn not to underestimate them we have to be alert at all the times and not to kneel down to enemies either the lesson already been taught Sihaknuk he wanted USA to get defeat by Viet Nam and now he i defeated him self and the world look at him as an international criminal against human, idiot and the killer in front of his citizen.

Some say "forget the past just deal with the present and plan for the future". It makes sense if we talk about an individual business, but if the issue has to do with other people such as crimes or injustices, there needs to be consequences. Without consequences, people never learn from their mistakes.
