A new primary school for overseas Vietnamese children officially opened in Cambodia’s capital city of Phnom Penh on August 30 to mark the 64th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2) and the August Revolution.
The Khmer-Vietnam Tan Tien school, a three-storey building with more than 10 classrooms, is located on an area of 1,200 sq. m in Mienchay district, Phnom Penh. The State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee and several overseas Vietnamese benefactors will financed the school construction.
Addressing the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Ngo Anh Dung praised the efforts that the Vietnamese community in the country has made in the recent past.
The school will provide training to over 400 pupils in the capital city of Phnom Penh.
On the occasion, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, the Fatherland Front Committees of Ho Chi Minh city and neighbouring provinces of Long An, Dong Nai and An Giang together with many sponsors, Vietnamese and foreign alike, donated millions of VND and presented 1,000 sets of textbooks, 4,000 notebooks, computers and music teaching instrument to the new school.

Yep! i went to "prek leap" the restaurant there, i can't believed my ear! these people speaking vietnamese language all over!, just like they are in vietnam or somthing? i was shock! these people eating and talking in vietnamese languages to each other, and you know how louds they are...if couple people talking, you can hear them a miles away...

ReplyDeleteCambodia always welcome other people, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc... Many have come to Cambodia and become Khmer in the process. Many of you don't have pure Khmer blood in you as you like to imagine. The fact that your blood isn't from the same race is why you're healthy and able to survive. It's called the DNA diversification, reason why diseases and illness can't get you easily because the diverse components that you're made of are different from your parents.
Isn't that obvious that in the next one hundred years there will be no khmer.Congratulation samdech akeak moha kbal ach ,you've done it.

ReplyDeleteMr. Great Hun Sen, if you are so great for the Khmer people why don't you send your money to invest in Khmer education in Vietnam like the Vietnam invest in Vietnamese education in Cambodia? Come on let prove that Vietnam is not racist and genocidal rage thief trying to destroy Khmer identity by preventing Khmer from having public Khmer school in Vietnam by Hun Sen and the great warm CPP umbrela publicly opening a similar school for Khmer in Vietnam.

ReplyDeleteIt is in the nature of human beings everywhere to harbour hope for their own kind; be it hope for daily security of their family members or the propagation and preservation of their community or shared cultural identity.
ReplyDeleteOften, cultural movements crissross and overlap in a fluid and co-existing pattern where people freely exchange ideas and habits for mutual benefit, and where perceived differences are generally overlooked and even compensated with due compassion.
This peaceful and dynamic process known as acculturation is quite apart from a more violent, coerced imposition of cultural regime on a distinct ethno-linguistic group such as the indigeneous people of the Mekong Delta i.e. the Khmer Krom.
It has taken the Vietnamese state (in one guise or another) over a century to first dilute an ancient entity, implanting an alien cultural framework on a subjugated minority, and in a piecemeal fashion, eradicating all cultural constituents of this native people.
So effectively has this cultural genocide been staged and so silent has the impact on the victims been that in the shadow of colonisation and post-colonial conflicts throughout Indochina the fate of the Khmer Krom has been almost forgotten or unknown to the outside world until quite recently, and unknown is how Vietnam would wants it to remain.
Imagine a genocide monument erected in the Mekong Delta commemorating the plight of the Khmer Krom even without the high pile of human skulls displayed inside it, for while it is true that the Vietnamese state has not committed murder en masse in that region on a par with the Pol Pot regime it has nevertheless done an irrepairable amount of violence against the body and soul of the Khmers of Kampuchea Krom.

It doesn't matter if there are Chinese school, Thai school, Vietnamese school in Cambodia, what matter is that these people need to speak Khmer if they want to be in Cambodia. Just like in America, we speak English! America welcome any languages in her country but it is a requirement in USA to know English because that is the mother tongue language.

ReplyDelete8:00am I agree that Cambodia neeeds to do something about those illegal viets living in Cambodia. They need to be arrested, loaded on the bus and sent back to Vietnam because they illegally entered Cambodia. The obvious problem is the current Cambodian govt has no plan for those illegal immigrants. What Cambodia needs to do is elect a new leader who can solve illegal immigrants problems.
