Prime Minister Hun Sen directly insulted the prime minister of Thailand as “stupid” and “crazy” on Monday, as he continued a four-day tour of disputed border regions in the north.
The remarks, aimed at Abhisit Vejjajiva, were a reaction to the Thai premier’s criticism of Hun Sen’s visit in military uniform to the temple of Preah Vihear on Saturday, in a continuing row between the two national leaders.
Cambodia and Thailand have thousands of heavily armed troops entrenched along the border, engaged in a 19-month military standoff over disputed border regions. The standoff has led to a handful of skirmishes, leaving at least eight soldiers dead.
Hun Sen visited Preah Vihear temple on Saturday, telling soldiers there he supported them in their defense of the border against potential “invasion.” He appeared with his wife, Bun Rany, wearing military fatigues.
Abhisit responded to the visit in Thai media, saying Hun Sen’s appearance in uniform was merely for political gain.
“My statement today is not good listening for the Bangkok leaders,” Hun Sen told soldiers near the Ta Moan temple complex, on the border of Oddar Meanchey province, Monday. “It displeases your mind that I have worn a military uniform my whole life.”
“Prime Minister Abhisit is stupid and crazy today,” he continued. “You have no right to ban me from wearing a military uniform. The wearing of the uniform is up to me, and I haven’t wronged the Cambodian constitution or law.”
Cambodia and Thailand are at diplomatic loggerheads over the appointment of ousted Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra as an economic adviser to Hun Sen. Both countries have withdrawn their ambassadors over Thaksin, who is wanted in Thailand on corruption charges.

You cannot even buy a modern jet fighter with this money. Thai budget is $10 billions US dollars is well equipped and training with modern warfares. Xen needed to rethink!

Any modern equipments will require spare parts and extensive maintaining which cost in the million.

Cambodians must currently be one of the most pathetic brainless ethnicity on this earth. They will curse, scream, shout, rant and become blindly nationalistic when the Thais attempt to claim a small piece of land. However, they sit and remain silent when Vietnam has already taken over much of Cambodia in terms of political influence, economic control, territorial loss and endless Vietnamese immigration into Cambodia.

ReplyDeleteyou are right. our prime minister needs to have some class. he should trim/refrain himself from saying some of the things we want to say just like everyone else. it is better if he prepare his speech and say only what on it. although he is the prime minister, it is time for him to learn for the sake of the nation and for himself.

Thailand has been obsessed with invading Cambodia as long as I can remember in 1962 and perhaps well before.Thailand even tries to steal or buy cambodian artifects for collective evidences hoping that history will change.And that may happen when cambodians become less aware of collective or national interests.
For Thais interest,Thai government become blinded with invasion of cambodia.
Reducing time of conflict,cambodians need to work together collecting evidences of intrusion readily in supporting submission to international court as for future reference.

It is because ever since AH Abishit kicked Thaksin out from office through military coup and street protested and he is on a rampage against Cambodia on day one by sending the Thai troop to annex Cambodian territories and the loss of million and billion of economic loss between Cambodia and Thailand!
Cambodia under Hun Sen have more interest in bringing peace, prosperity, and stability to the whole region but AH Abishit is willing to risk it all just to score political point and to serve his party!

Under the Cambodian People's Party Hun Sen Khmer Rouge Regime, no criminals that has been committed crimes against journalists, political opponents, leaders of the Free Trade Union, innocent men, women and children have ever been brought to justice.
It is shameful to hear our leader using all these curse language. If Hun Sen care too much about 4.6 square km with Tailand, why doesn't he go to see the East border with Vietnam and says the same thing? It is much more than 4.6 square km. What kind of patriotism does Hun Sen has?

ReplyDeleteI don't think it's wrong for Hun Sen to say these words. If you analyse clearly what Abhisit Vejjajiva said earlier in Thai media, then Hun Sen has the right to defend his reputation and country.

Besides the fact that the HUN SEN's cursing of Thai PM is not suitable for a Prime Minister of a country with sophisticated culture like Cambodia, this slip of tongue together with the declaration of Hor Nam Hong shows the embarrassment of the Hun Sen Government in front of the snub he receives for not being allowed to go on Khmer territory in Prasat Ta Muan. This reflects the lack of careful preparation from the part of Ministry of foreign affairs which should not announce beforehand that Hun Sen is to visit Ta Muan without being sure that he can do so. Saying that General kan Savoeurn visits thai soldiers in ta muan for his own private business the same day when Hun Sen is scheduled to visit is dumb.
