O goodness, argue about the word Youn again!!

Well, if it is not political correct, then just use Viet instead.

It is like in the US, the black do not like people to call them Niger, so people are be careful with it, even the word Nigro is scientific name for black race.

    Somnawk,

I didn't follow that DR Gaffar's letter, but did he really mean to criticise you about using the word yuon ? If he did, Dr Gaffar must have gone gaga, as he was fighting against the yuons at the border and he is also a scholar, which he should have known better about the meaning of the term.

Dr. Gaffar did not criticize Somnawk or anyone for using the word Yuon. His' article was about how people should be able to disagree in public, school, politics, freedom of expression is essential in a Democratic society. Dr. Gaffar urged us all not to be disagreeable.
Dr. Gaffar's next article talked about how people lack civility in political debate, instead of really listening to the other person, they focus on something that is completely off topic and attack them for it.

If the word "YOUN" used by any one referred to discremination, and some one like Dr Gaffar has expressed and commented in his letter regarding the use of the word "YOUN" by some one, I would suggest Dr Gaffar should make reaction what the Vietnamese authority has just recently forbids Khmer Krom from listening to Khmer radio or watching Khmer TV. "Now we have another serious issue in Kampuchea Krom and that is they (Vietnamese authority) ban Khmer Krom from watching TVs and listening to radio broadcasting from Cambodia and if they continue to ignore the ban and continue watching or listening, they will be fined 10 million dongs ($850). And there is another directive from the (Vietnamese) Prime Minister which bans us (Khmer Krom) completely from listening (radio and watching TVs)" and ""Recently, there are summons (by the Vietnamese authority) issued to Khmer monks and Khmer Krom people who have installed sattelite disc to watch Khmer TVs. They summoned them to tell them not to watch Khmer TVs any more. The Vietnamese authority forced them to sign a letter promising not to listen to Khmer radio and Khmer TVs. They really strictly enforce the bans", Mr. Thach Setha (pictured), president of Khmer Kampuchea Krom Association in Cambodia.

Dr Gaffar should directly make the comment about Hun Xen and his thugs rather generalizes that we Khmer lack of civility in political debates. If we are all not being hypocrite, there is no doubt what so ever that CPP especially Hun Xen is the person who is lack of every thing to political debate, his manners, knowledge and worse of all temperament. He uses real BAT PHSAR language, cursing and swearing...
Please try to be fair to all of us and other genuine people who love to debate.

Dr. Gaffar, am wondering if you took the question to which mr. somnawk directed to you about yuons and how to get rid of yuons, as an attack to you or rerouting from topic? I see no meant nor bitterness in mr. somnawk question nor it is really divert from issue nor lack of civility. You know even the most great debaters cant always stink to the topic, people can talk about other thing then back to topic and so on as long as debaters rest civilized and respect one another mutually (ex: no animosity, no vulgar, no trace of people privacy). They can talk, they can argue about everything and back to issue. Don’t you disagreeing with mr. somnawk question about yuons then diverting to some kind of attack? Of course in intellectual meant but that’s rest an attack.

Although I totally agree with you, it is really ill, weird, not only lack of civility, to attack or trace adversary to personal instead of stinking to topic. I seen the worse which really revolted me and I cant stand indifferent to that either.

Your article would be really educational if you didn’t mention about somnawk matter. Although I encourage you to keep writing and share your wisdom, your vision with people.

Apologize for using the Yuon. Yuon never apologize for taking Khmer land and insulting Khmer every day. I think your grandma was wrong to teach you to be humble to the haughty.

People who can't read should not make assumptions or presume to know the contents of anything. And if you do not know, making assumption about what you think the article is about creates misunderstanding.

Therefore it is wise, if you cannot read Khmer, to not comment at all and passed off to those who could.

That is pretty embarrassing, especially for the first person who made another connection to a moot point of "Oh goodness are we arguing about Youn" again? We Khmer have no more interest in arguing a point we all agreed on anymore, that has been settled.

This new article is regarding civil debate. Please read the previous article in [ENGLISH] of Dr. Geoafar if you like a little background on this so you don't have to make uncessary assumptions.

Khmer should learn to read Khmer. Period.
