On 10 June, Rong Chhun, the representative of the Cambodia Watchdog Council (CWC), sent a letter to Sar Kheng asking the latter to publicly show the number of immigrants currently living in Cambodia.

In the letter sent to Sar Kheng, the senior minister of Interior, Rong Chhun wrote that the CWC noted that the number of immigrants in Cambodia is increasing every day, and the Cambodian people are concerned about this increase.

The letter added that the CWC asks that [Sar Kheng] shows the number of legal and illegal Viet immigrants, the number of legal and illegal Chinese immigrants etc… who are currently living in Cambodia. The Ministry of Interior (MoI) never let the public openly know about the number of immigrants in Cambodia, nor does it have any clear plan on how to handle illegal immigrants currently living in Cambodia either.

Regarding the letter sent to Sar Kheng, Rong Chhun indicated that, in general, it is noted that all these immigrants are coming to Cambodia to wrestle away jobs from Cambodians, and if the the government continues to ignore this situation and let the immigrants flow into Cambodia freely, the Cambodian people will surely face the loss of their identity because the number of these immigrants will be much larger than the actual number of Cambodians.

Rong Chhun stressed also: “We want to see a serious legal administration on the immigration, just like any other countries in the world.”

Oh Rong Chhun, poor guy, you better to keep your free time to advocate for increasing the teacher salary instead of asking this stupid question to HE Sar Kheng.

    4:31 PM:

What make you think a concern of a Khmer citizen (Khmer Mchas Srok) is not as important as giving the Viet a free pass to swarm Khmer peasants and grab whatever space available to grow food to feed their family and including the food on your daily plate?

What kind of joints are you smoking?
You think feeding crocodiles will prevent them from eating you first?

Gee....... wake up dude you head will be on the skew soon enough!

90,000 was the figure quoted in the Phnom Penh Post of Vietnamese immigrants living in Cambodia about a decade ago. Even then this figure was a gross underestimate by the Cambodian authorities, (one feels) therefore, do not count on the interior ministry to disclose credible statistics on this sensitive subject.

Like the border demarcation, they would rather you didn't ask in the first place so that they would not have to prevaricate, lie or physically stop you from finding out the truth!

i think this is good approach for cambodian activists to stand up for khmer people and khmer citizens about the issue of illegal immigration in cambodia, especially with youn ones! yes, if not careful control and oversee, illegal youn immigrants can take away jobs for khmer people and citizens and a detrimental to khmer trust and morality and well-being, etc in the khmer community and country, etc... we must voice to gov't to put in place an immigration law in order to control rampant illegal immigrants in cambodia, just like they do with other countries on earth, really! khmer must stand up and speak up about this issue. cambodia must be for khmer people, a priortiy, not for illegal immigrants taken away jobs for khmer people, ok!

Under the Hun Sen's regime, Vietnames are really enjoyed their lives in Cambodia. They will mass up with anything they like and there is on one will say a word to them. Cambodia is the free country for Vietnamese to live, why not take it for granted.

Thank you MR Rong Chhun for voicing your concern over the influx and mismanagement of the vietnamese immigrants of RGC.

we do not want any mistreatment to the legal immigrants,at the same time we do not want any destruction of any wrong intention of them either.

It is the case that rule of laws should be abided by everyone, regardless of social classes.

Once again,we praise and support your idea.
