Prime Minister Hun Sen has branded opposition leader Sam Rainsy as “stupid” for filing a criminal complaint against him in New York, saying United States courts had no power over him.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony in Phnom Penh, Hun Sen lambasted his longtime political foe, who is living in self-imposed exile.
“US courts do not have the right to do anything to the Cambodian prime minister,” he said. “The key for opening up [Sam Rainsy’s] return to the country is Hun Sen.”
Last week, Sam Rainsy filed a criminal complaint against Hun Sen, alleging his involvement in a 1997 grenade attack on an opposition rally that killed 16 people and wounded more than 100.
Hun Sen rebutted the claim that he was involved in the 1997 grenade attack, saying Sam Rainsy wrote to him in 2005 apologising and retracting the accusation.
He dared Sam Rainsy to file a complaint in Brussels while the premier is there for the ASEM 8 Summit next week.
“When the dog bites my leg, I don’t bite the dog’s leg – I use my leg to kick the dog,” he said. “I won’t implore you and there is no court that would dare to do anything with me.”
On September 23, Phnom Penh Municipal Court sentenced Sam Rainsy to 10 years in prison for releasing maps allegedly showing Vietnamese border encroachments.
SRP spokesman Yim Sovann said the complaints were filed in the US because the court system was independent and could find justice after the grenade attack.
“We believe in the US courts. They are different from the Cambodian courts, which are under the influence of the ruling party,” he said.

ReplyDeleteThis is a quotable quote. Hun Sen might be poor educationally, but he is rich in learning and understanding the world around him. He knows his right, and he knows his role. On this, I respect him. What distresses me is that all the seemingly well-educated smart Cambodian politicians seem to have no ability to defeat this despicable, pagoda's boy tyrant, Hun Sen, a key to bring full, desirable liberty to Cambodia.

Yeah the kicking is coming. Soon SR will run and hide like a fugitive. It just a matter of time that the arrest warrant will be issued to all the diplomats, requesting for SR arrest and deportation to serve his jail term in Cambodia.

I don't think Sam Rainsy will be arrested. If Hun Sen dares enough, he would arrrest of kill Sam Rainsy long ago. Do you think Hun Sen continues to let Sam Rainsy crossed his path all the time. You all above are so wrong. Sam Rainsy is an International Parliament Member. I don't think Hun Sen is that stupid to have Sam Rainsy to be arrested or killed. There will be a dialogue or negotiation going on between these two person. Mark my words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOnce meeting is established, I anticipate they can work together significantly in the future. I think this the Hun Sen political scenario that made Sam Rainsy to trouble the east and Hun Sen on the west cause Hun Sen can't do nothing to the YUON so he let Sam Rainsy to work on the EAST.

ReplyDeleteYou hit right on the head. Hun Sen is not stupid to kill Sam Rainsy, because he needs Rainsy's presence for his duty to beg for money from other nations. If no Hun Sen's financial and poltical interests, he can kill Rainsy in no time.

ReplyDeleteSR won't be arrested that easily. In our judicial system, in order to arrest a person you have to have Probable Cause (PC) before making an arrest.
Can't say the same in the "Kangaroo court". Where everything is guilty before Probable Cause.

Hun Sen is scared to death right now about the lawsuit but he talks like he is a brave man . He has been talking to his advisers if there in anything that he can do to fight back against Sam Rainsy that's why he asked his kangaroo Court to summon Sam Rainsy to answer the old case that has been judged once already . The lawsuit that has been filed by Sam Rainsy against Hun Sen was a criminal case and FBI got alot of proves to show Hun Sen and his bodygards that they have been involved in that hand grenade attack . Just wait and see who was stupid.
