Thai, Cambodian troops clash near disputed territory

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thai and Cambodian soldiers exchanged fire on a disputed stretch of their border on Friday, a Thai military official said, the latest flare-up in an ancient feud over territory surrounding a 900-year-old Hindu temple.

A Thai regional commander in the area, Lieutenant General Thawatchai Samutsakorn, said there was a skirmish. "There are no reports of injuries at this point," he told Reuters.

A Thai army source said clashes began at about 3 p.m. (0800 GMT) and were still going on. "There is sporadic shelling but details are very sketchy at this point," he said.

Both sides have clashed before in disputed territory around the Preah Vihear temple claimed by both Southeast Asian countries.
