A wooden Naga statue was found on March 17, in the district of Pochea Loeu, Kandal province, during the digging for a pond.
According to Khim Sarith, the secretary of state at the Ministry of Cult, this statue of about 1-meter high, and 0.6-meter wide, weighing 60 kilograms, consisting of three elements. The statues is dated approximately to the Oudong era (17th century). “It is rare to find a wooden statue so well preserve,” Khim Sarith stressed. According to the latter, this remains was intentionally buried in clayey soil – which protects it from humidity – by someone who wants to protect it during a period of war. The statue was transferred to the National Museum last Saturday.
