At a time when a group of 12 Khmer Krom associations had issued a joint statement on Friday criticizing Heng Samrin, president of the National Assembly, who considered the Khmer Krom problem as an internal affair of Vietnam, on this issue. In a phone declaration he made to The Cambodia Daily on Sunday, Heng Samrin said that Heng Samrin is still maintaining his positionhe does not consider the Khmer Krom problem as being a problem in which Cambodia should be involved with, nor does he consider Khmer Krom being protected by the Cambodian Constitution. Heng Samrin said that because Khmer Krom people live in Vietnam, and they are being protected by Vietnam, then they must abide by the Vietnamese law. Heng Samrin said that there are million of Khmer Krom people living in Vietnam and they do not complain about their living condition. Heng Samrin added that he did not yet receive the statement from the Khmer Krom associations issued on Friday, and he is not certain as to how he will answer them.

ReplyDeleteOne day, Ah Heng Samrin siad before 1979 the Khmer-Vietnam border was far away from his house but now(in the 1980s) the Khmer-Vietnam border was just at his doorstep. This is why Ah heng Samrin or Achar Vek could not help khmer Krom.

If he doesn't consider Khmer Krom as Khmer, he should express condolence b/c he is a Buddhist, when monks, the reverent citizens in society have been humiliated, he is a Buddhist has to express some condolence or use other good diplomatic word, better than to say that it is VN internal affair.
