An official from the NRP said that King Sihamoni authorized NRP delegates, led by Prince Norodom Chakrapong, the NRP vice-president, to meet him as requested. Muth Chantha, NRP spokesman, said the 19-preson delegation will meet with the king on Sunday 12 May, in order to hand over to him a petition bearing the thumbprints of about 200,000 people requesting the king to pardon Prince Ranariddh. The prince was sentenced to 18-month jail for breach of trust in the sale of the Funcinpec party headquarters. Prince Ranariddh is currently in self-exiled overseas. In an interview with VOA on Friday evening, the prince claimed that his sentence is politically oriented. The prince added that he is not as bad as Ieng Sary, the Khmer Rouge leader whom Hun Sen requested the pardon for from King Sihanouk in 1998.
