The National Election Committee (NEC) plans to issue new directives for commune and sangkat officials to improve the Cambodian voters list. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the NEC said that it will issue a directive to commune and sangkat officials so that they erase or correct the list, those voters who have moved, died, or had their names registered twice. The NEC directive stated that commune election officials will start updating the voters list in June. On Thursday, Tep Nytha, NEC secretary-general, said that there will be a reform in the voters registration. Election monitors said that the voters list could contain thousands of ghost voters, whereas the real voters could not vote at the 01 April commune election because their names were not on the voters list. Muth Chantha, NRP spokesman, said that he welcomes the new NEC plan. He added that the NEC recognizes its mistakes.
