US Military Aid 'Important' ... to prop up the CPP sagging image before the election?

US Military Aid 'Important': Ambassador

By Taing Sarada, VOA Khmer
Original report from Washington
04 June 2008

The resumption of military aid to Cambodia is part of an important relationship, and can help with counterterrorism, human trafficking and drug interdiction, the US ambassador to Cambodia said in Washington Monday.

The US donated 31 trucks, part of a larger contingent, to Cambodia's armed forces Tuesday, signaling another step in military cooperation that has steadily grown since 2006.

The aid was not meant to protect US oil interests and was not meant to compete with Chinese or Vietnamese interests, Ambassador Joseph Mussomeli said.

The aid, from the most professional military in the world, was meant to improve relations between the two countries, he said.

The Cambodian military needs to dismantle all the donated (GMC) trucks to ensure there aren't any bugs installed.

How are they going to put them back together?

After all these years, why all of a sudden the US shows interest towards Cambodia? Mr. Mussomeli, the Ambassador said it's not oil. Hmmmm!! Dismantle it and give it back to the US.

Why do we hate the US? Just because of the US bombing? I think it's better to get aids from the US and from the fucking vietnam of chinese. Viet give aids to khmer, but they see khmer land as benefit. Don't hate the US.

I never trusted the Indian giver, under any circumstances.

Again, let's dismantle these fuel-inefficient (GMC) trucks to be sure they're free of bugs.

USA has lost plenty grounds and felt leaving out in SE Asia. Resumption of military assistant to Cambodia is just part of gesture and to make sure that some countries in the region would be on USA side should they need.

So why is it taking you guys (it seems) forever to accomplish the missions in Afghanistand and Iraq, if you had everything under control?

However, more importantly, you need to remember that the reason you guys are taking forever to complete the missions, because you're using modern weapons with conventional (cheap)soldiers, which explains why you guys are taking forever (squadering taxpayer dollars)to complete just SIMPLE tasks. It's pathetic, quite literally! Also, it's a colossal failure on your leaders part. Of course, we won't blame you ... it's your leaders' fault!

Bullshit.Militarily,we took the TALIBAN regime out in about a month and a little over three week with Saddam's armies. Why we did not complte this mission sooner, because we want those two countries to have a real democracy and that take time.Remember ! we defeated the imperial of Japan in less than 4 years.

It is my belief that the Cambodian government should take more time to make additional assessment by deferring resumption of the fuel-inefficient used trucks prior to accepting U.S. aid.

    2:39,
    Let me tell you something.....
The US was never once offered us anything until recently...... why? Due to the recent discovered of oil in Cambodia..... that's why! It started with the fleet ship being docked at sihanoukville and now this?
    Expect more to follow!
Remember, the US doesn't care about anyone else but it's own interest. Look at it as a little loans for a future investment. Don't be too naive my Khmer people.

Hawaaii became the 50th state after intense of sugar interests, and therefore oil interests in Cambodia could be something that the Cambodian government need to think about.
