Let me introduce you to Okhna (honorary title) SREY Sothea. Born in 1957 from ordinary peasants, he is the head of 7NG company who will build these two towers on the Dey Krohom land.

Photo: John Vink/Magnum

Some 25 km from the center of Phnom Penh, and next to his garment factory employing 1900 people, he built houses (3mx6m) for the people living in the Dey Krohom slum and for other soon to be evicted slum dwellers. An office of Credits for Poor Resident Development Organization (CPRD), which is also run by 7NG is located nearby. If you want to know what Mr. Srey Sothea’s intentions are you might want to check his website, although a lot of it is still under construction…

People at Dey Krohom were evicted and robbed violently in day light without properly and fairly compensated. What does this CPRD mean for them as homeless people? It wouldn’t be free residence for them. Isn’t it?

This guy, Srey Sothea’s intension is to being wealthier by robbing poor people when reimbursement was not being offered in a reasonably manner.

Nothing is perfect in this world. Do you think the mighty America was built on happiness? Hell no. Do some research to the inter-continental railroad tracks to the West and the "manifest destiny?" How many Native American Indian tribes are extinct now before America gets to what it is today?

It's called capitalism. Don't you know how capitalism works? If you live in the West, especially America, you should already know what capitalism is and how it works, buddy. The world is not all rainbows and sunshine like you all imagine.

If you really are genuinely caring about the poor people, why don't you do something more than just going online to do your righteous talking? or am you only caring with your mouth and not your action. Talk is cheap, eh. Action speaks louder.

Frankly, I am quite disturbed and dismayed by all ignorant comments made in this particular blog. These ignorant people know just enough english to come here and use all the foul languages with less sense of responsibility for what they are writing.

I agree that evicting people is by no means acceptable. Prior to harsh actions by the 7NG backed by the government, well planned and civilized methods could have been explored and used to avoid all unnecessary heartachs that bombard these slum dwellers.

A method of making clear understandings to the mind of these confused and potential evictees could have been used. A method such as gathering them for interviews and taking all questions they may have.

And during these processes the live interviews can be publically recorded from various angles with video cameras for evidence.

To shorten the time used in these processes multiple dozens of families, at one time, can be interviewed and allowed for all questionings they may have regarding their move and relocation from their unsightly slum that devalues the pride of a developing nation of Cambodia.

The slum has definitely portrayed a terrible image to the remnant of the Khmer Empire whose pride and glory was once so great in the ancient time of the Khmer long life history.

The slum looks unsightly bad and especially when it is located in or around the heart of the capital city.

I visit "his website" and I read the Home Feature article. I then click on the 7 NG Real Estate blog and see that it is truly impressive based on its vision of building the new Cambodia.

My profound, genuine and best wishes to this 7NG Khmer company. But also to this same company my petition is please be very sensitive to the needs and the burden of the poor as they go through rough times day by day.

Please do your best to assist them. And only then that your vision of "Building Better Cambodia" would become so much more meaningful to all Khmers today and the next five thousand Khmer generations to come.

Thank you and God bless you with great wisdom. My best regards.

2- Sanction-Don't do business with them and tell those who are dealing with those animals (They already change from human to beast) to terminate their contracts
3- Media…Let the world know what is going on in Cambodia…sooner or later their foreign bank accounts will freeze, their traveling will be restricted and by the way, the criminal court in Belgium has a warrant for them

It seems that now you have it made in a new country and you are better off than your parent and now it is time for you to turn your back on your past? ahhahahhaha

You are a fucken hypocrite yourself bastard! Do you think all these dirt poor Cambodian people want to be born as poor people? Due to circumstance and mismanagement of AH HUN SEN regime that is why they are poor and in fact majority of Cambodian people are still poor!

As long as a fool likes you including AH HUN SEN and his cronies continue to look down and take advantage of the poor and Cambodia will remain a class struggle and class warfare between the rich and the poor!

I thought POL POT did his best to eliminate class struggle and class warfare between the rich and the poor! And now in 2009, you and AH HUN SEN are promoting class struggle and class warfare between the rich and the poor? You know too damn well that the poor will always out number the rich and the outcome is obvious as you have seen during the Pol Pot regime!

As far as I am concerned there should be no class struggle or class warfare and Cambodian government must play a major role in helping those Cambodian people who are very unfortunate and poor for those who are better off and rich and encourage them to contribute back to Cambodian society and give them proper recognition for their achievement!

Please understand dirt poor Cambodian people are only human and no human are alike!

    Phnom Penh needs development.

7NG is a company that will create more jobs in the field of construction. I hate to see Dey Krahom residents being forced out but most of these people are living in poverty and most aren't doing anything positive for Phnom Penh other than living in the slums.

I think it's a very good ideal to develop all the slums in city and move the people in these areas to the out-skirts of the city. When potential foreign investors visits PP, the first thing they see are the slums. This creates an image to them that Cambodians are living in the past, in poverty, and thus not a good country for investment.

Land evictions may look bad but it is all for the better of Cambodia and her people. People don't want slum/slum dwellers, they want development!
