A Cambodian parliamentarian has urged the judge presiding over her defamation case to give her justice, and deliver an historic ruling for the country's women.
But Opposition MP Mu Sochua won't know the outcome of the case - brought against her by Prime Minister Hun Sen - until next month.
A Cambodian court on Friday delayed judgement in the high-profile case.
A verdict is now expected August 4.
Dozens of supporters cheered Mu Sochua as she left the court.
Hun Sen sued Mu Sochua, a former minister of women's affairs, after she filed a legal case against him earlier this year.
Her case against the Prime Minister was dismissed several weeks ago.
Political pressure
A number of Mu Sochua party MPs attended the hearing, along with human rights observers and diplomats.
After making her appeal to the judge, she told the court she would remain silent as she had been unable to find a lawyer to represent her.
Her previous lawyer was forced to quit after coming under intense political pressure.
The court case against her is the latest in a series brought by the government against the opposition, the media and NGOs.
Human rights groups have decried the crackdown as an abuse of Cambodia's young democracy.

ReplyDeleteThe justice for disgrace Mu Sochua, SRP and its stupid supporters want, is the Court gives the verdict what they requested. The so called she asked the Court to judge the case according to the spririt of the laws is just her pretext to cover up her political stunt. Having said that if on 04 August 2009, the Court found the disgrace Mu Sochua not guilty, SRP and its supporters will applause that the Court is independent and impartial, by contract, if the same Court found the disgrace Mu Sochua guilty and sends her to jail, SRP and its supporters will point their fingers blame to the Court. So, what is justice that SRP and thick face Mu Sochua want??? However, the Court is not going to give the verdict to please SRP or disgrace Mu Sochua, but the Court will judge her according to the Cambodian laws. Like it or not disgrace Mu Sochua, SRP and its supporters have to cope to live with it.

If the court gives MuSochua a guilty verdict, then it is not Cambodian laws. It is in fact, a Primitive Hun Laws.

Evryone knows that this case is about a losing face between Hun Sen and Mu Sochua and Hun Sen's court is doing anything it can just to save Hun Sen's face . The world knows that the court is corrupted and bias toward CPP . In my oppinon I think Mu Sochua is a winner no matter what the outcome will be because she is not afraid of Hun Sen's intimidation . She walked into the court without her lawyer to defend herself again a strongman Hun Sen that no one has done to Hun Sen befor . This could be a first lesson for Hun Sen to learn . Don't think that you are a Prime Minister and you can intimidate anyone ... not this lady .
