Phnom Penh - A Cambodian court convicted a senior naval officer of assault after he attacked two teachers and a 10-year-old boy who scared his daughter, local media reported Wednesday. General Keo Monysoka, the deputy commander of Ream Naval Base near the southern tourist resort of Sihanoukville, carried out the attack on March 6 after the boy used a live turtle to frighten the general's 14-year-old daughter.

On hearing of the incident, the general and his adult son drove to the boy's school, where the general kicked and pulled the hair of two teachers and attacked the boy.

The general's adult son, who is now on the run, also allegedly pushed the boy to the ground and injured him.

The court handed the one-star general a one-year suspended sentence and ordered him to spend 10 days in jail. The judge also instructed Keo Monysoka to pay 6,500 dollars in compensation to the three victims.

Cambodian military officials enjoy relative impunity for their actions. The country's military has more than 2,000 generals, making it among the most top-heavy in the world.

Don't put the general into a prison, because he don't want to lose his face.
Please send him to serve at the Buddhist temple as buddhist monk for 1 month. He needs to learn well about the teaching of buddha.

good to hear but cpp should not only sentence those who less power or not belong to their clan. there are a lot of high ccp officers and kids who committed much more crimes but never been sentenced or jails. Laws must use for everyone they are cpp, MP or king, not only when cpp wants to use it

No offense to anybody in here. If I were the father I would do the same as this general because the fucken job of being a father is able to protect my children whether my children have done something right or wrong. If I don't come to help my children and my children would view me as less being a father who lack of love and compassion which can have serious consequence later in life!

I don't know why the teachers even allow the student to bring turtle to school to scare other children and if the school become a scary place for children and how can the student learn anything? The school environment must be free of violence for all children for them to learn, to interact, and to grow.

@6:30 PM the kid is only 10 what do you expect the girl is 14Yrs, because the fact that she is a 1start general daughter she scared of a turtle? not enough pretext for this voilent act. What happened if the boy was the son on a two stars and the father took his soldier to face the 1 star general? What would happened then?
No damn excuse to do what he did, he should be Jail longer...

6:30, The father acted worse then the children did. If you live in America, don't be so sure of yourself of your ability to protect your children. There's a lot of things that will corrupt the minds of your children that will likely turn them to perverts.

    Hi! Dudes,

Please do not blame each other, one golden star general is a fucking high rank official in the army commander level. He gained the one golden star general is for protecting his country and fight for his country NOT fight with the 10 years old kid and 2 ladies men.

Sending him to prison for 10 days and suspend his rank as general for one year is not enough to my perspective, he love his kid, but he does not care of someone's kid, it's shit. To be a man raise his hand to beat 2 ladies and one kid, how can he deserve to be a 1 fucking golden star general???? answer me please. what is next after one year, he will receive his one golden star back????? shit and sic.

My perspective, better send him to be a fighter in Iraq, just testing him for one year there as a fighter NOT a golden star general and see whether he deserve to receive a 1 fucking golden star general or NOT. If he fight well, then he deserves to receive it, but not fight with the ladies and 10 years old kid.

He seems does not understand or are aware of the general code of conduct and disciplinary as a golden star general, because he has not passed the military academy once he received a 1 golden star on his shoulders.

A good father will not preach violence, not practice ill violence against little kid or innocent people. He protects other people kid and his society by preaching and practicing virtue and good leadership. This man is juggle man like his PM and most of cpp scums who loves to practice violence and abuse power against other people. 1 month jail is still so symbolic but already a good thing though.

I don't know the detail of the incident, either it is a repeated event or it was just a one time thing, but the proper way to deal with the issue is the General need to talk to the boy parent as the warning first.

  17. Anonymous10:18 PM

Just kids. The General doesn't need to talk to the parent of the boy. He should talk to the teachers to control the boy.

The 14 year old girl should be jailed with her father for making a big deal out of nothing. For that she called her dad? What she was trying to prove is that her father has the power to hurt anybody who tries to mess with her. All she had to do was tell the teacher, instead of calling her father. All the schools should ban her from the their schools to avoid future problems.

This is a case of over reacting over a child play... Cambodians are still so ignorant about what is right and what is wrong. There are a lot to be learned... Punishing the general and his son is the right thing to do... He has no right to hurt the kid and their teachers during their learning session. It is just wrong to do that... It is the right first step to put them in jail. It is a required process to for them to think twice about hurting other again.

Does anybody know how much the General's salary?
6,500 dollars in compensation pay out to the three victims is not easy, unless he's one of the corrupted individual who have million of dollars from his patrol.
He should be fired from the Navy.

a 14 year-old born and raised in Cambodia afraid of an innocent turtle? give me a freaked break, would you? Grow up, you freaked so called riche Khmer girl!

Why did this 10 year-old boy bring the turtle to school anyway? Was it a show-and-tell day? The story doesn't add up. Why weren't the teachers informed the father about the incident? Or were they? And what a hell wrong with the older brother? That was so stupid of them to show up at school and attacked the 10 year-old and teachers. What were they thinking? Why in school? Did they think, they would get away with it? It's ashamed to see an educated man lost his rank and jailed for 10 days, just because of a stupid turtle. I do hope, any high officials ranking government(1 star - 4 stars) will learn a lesson from this. If you abuse your power you will be prosecuted! Get it, prosecuted! Watch out riche spoiled kids! Think twice, before you go around and bully innocent people. If you do abuse people, you and the abuser (your father, or mother) will be jailed longer than this 1 star general. Justice is served! Hurray, for the victims! I hope, the money will go to the victims' family.

Since every officals Cambodian GOV'T who are serving their duties in this democrazy!!! regime(Hun Sen administration)are abvious their power, ignoring what's right or what's wrong, just about every where on the inocents powerless Khmer people al over the country, this general should not be hardly punished. My opinion is to sending him to school once again but difference one, it's a displinary shool:

1- Displinary of Military relating to his jobs(limitation of the power).
2- Teach him where a protocol of his admisible rulling power on behalf of a naval gneral.
3- Teach him about humanright, aplication and act of demonstration over throughout his sentencing. I would like to see more general like him attending this siminar, because they are like one another.

Please do it to him and amonst the other Khmer generals.

the point is people with title in gov't should be educated and be held accountable and to be aware of the limitation of their title and privilege, etc. just because they have a star on their shoulder doesn't give them the right to abuse that privilege, ok! see, now that it's in the media, people can see right from wrong. so, be educated, that's all! can't take law into you own hand, whether you believe it or not,ok! that kind is so outdated already!
