End to Exile? Sam Rainsy isn’t afraid to return: SRP

Sam Rainsy on the election trail.

End to Exile?
AN official from the opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) says that its eponymous party president will return to Cambodia soon, despite the prospect of his arrest after being sentenced to prison for uprooting border markers. SRP spokesman Kimsour Phirith said on Tuesday that he could not give a date for Sam Rainsy’s possible return to the country, but said he would do so without fear. “He must be back, because he is Khmer and he cannot give up the Khmer nation. If he comes and faces arrest, he will still come. His stance will not change,” he said. Sam Rainsy “must dare to face prison to prevent [Cambodia] from losing land.” Kimsour Phirith added that the international community, would “not be quiet” about his jailing. Phay Siphan, spokesman for the Council of Ministers, said that Sam Rainsy must serve his sentence. “He must be punished – this is the court’s stance,” he said.

I don't want Raisny to return yet, but since his people declared it already, I hope Rainsy is true to his words and returns, otherwise his credentials and credibility will be in question. If Rainsy returns, he has to come with U.S congressmen or UN officials so if he get arrested, the world will know and condemn Hun Sen.

Sam Rainsy is too coward to return. His party members in Cambodia want him to return, even if he has to go to jail, but I don't think Sam Rainsy dare to return.

He will continue to put this condition and that condition so that he doesn't have to return. The conditions are just an excuse to save his face and make him look like a hero, that he is concern about those villagers than his own safety, it is just a bullshit.

Listen up, if he gets arrests at the airport or even kill by bullet, who will be in charge of his party, please? Did Mrs. Sam Rainsey or anyone prepare for this? Mr. Sam Rainsey is too important to waste at the moment. It's ajungle out there. He has a million or two Cambodian people under his belt right now and it will be more tomorrow. He cann't be serious. No way.

SRP must understand CPP overall strategy better in order to develop a resilient campaign.

At this point, I don't think HS will try to get rid of SR. There is no real benefit for HS to do that, and if HS really wants to he would probably do it long time ago.

HS is using SR as an alibi for his governement to continue receiving international aids. Beside HS knows SR is a city politician who have neither the experience nor the will to go to the jungle to start an armed struggle.

SRP is concentrating all their resources on running a western style election campaign, and all HS needs to do to win is to control all radio/tv stations and let his supporters do some intimidation during the election time.

HS does not want to see SR disappear from Cambodia politics because whoever who will replace SR may not be as peaceful as SR. The new opposition leader is likely to take a different approach including starting a governement in exile, a popular front ...etc which is far dangerous and threatening to CPP regime.

If I were SR, I would return to Cambodia, and go to jail in the name of "patriotism" and let the peole see that he's a Khmer hero that is not daunted by youns or its puppets. Such heroism will definitely inspire more Khmers to join his party.

SR and SRP supporters, you got to change your strategy to liberate the nation from Hanoi.

SR be a chess palyer, and you got to understand CPP/Hanoi game plan.

    Wish you all the best!

Any members of the Sam Rangsy Party please check the borderline where Mr. Heng Samrin's village is located. His village was in Cambodia, but is it still in Cambodia now?

    9:47PM - That's a self-defeating attitude!

The opposition needs to have as much support as they can, does not matter where it comes from HRP, FUNCIPEC, CPP...etc.

If you think that you or SRP are the only nationalist, then you and SRP are bound to fail!

Cambodia and Khmers are at a crossroads, ladies and gentleman. If we as Khmers are to survive, we need to unite. Have an open mind, because sometime your perceived enemies can be your allies and your allies can be your enemy...be very careful. Perception and emotions can lead us into a wrong road.

I think people who tell messieur Rainsy to not return must really scare to be in Cambodia, some are really naive too! U.S congress or UN official accompanying? What is Rainsy president of us and general sec of un?

If srp want help Cambodia then it must stick closer to it's supporter and voter through thick and thin. When I vote for leader I need know he is committed

10:43, committment to do good deeds for our people is one thing but to have jungle justice determine your faith is another. I am glad to see that Mr. Rainsy is returning to his homeland but that does not mean that the illiterates and the corrupted got a free reign to do whatever they want on his life. Not all CPP are dogs, not at all but the most corrupted ones are the most violent.

    You are a fool!

I am your supporter, but I think you are a fool if you are going back. You will be locked up in jail. Your voice cannot be heard, your present cannot be seen, and your symbolism of freedom is gone. Is that what you want? You know the Hun Sen and his clans. They have many tricks for you. They can make a fake of your confession, they control all new outlet, and they suffocate Cambodia. Please think your plan carefully. For many years, Cambodia has an old lunatic king, a paranoid mass killer, and a stupid traitor. Cambodia cannot have another fool.

Remember! Dr. King is one of the greatest admirable and respectable people who did not conscientiously afraid of going to jail.

    Let's see:

If SR stays in France, he will fade away from Cambodia politics because the grass roots think SR is not up to the job and that he (SR) abandons them. Also, it makes HS look like no one can challenge his CPP regime.

On the other hand, if SR returns to Cambodia, it will show he is committed to the country and his supporters. He is not afraid to confront HS to protect Khmer interest. That kind of leadership will weaken HS's authority and incite more people to join the struggle with SR. The international community or donors will also put pressure on HS regime to release SR.

SR will become a true national hero and inspire and unite people to raise up against HS.

The choice is yours Mr. SR. Either you stay in France and be seen as a coward, or you return to Cambodia and be seen as Hero to triumph over the traitor HS. I hope you make the right decision.

I'm sure HS and Hanoi wish you stay in France for the rest of your life. Do you, SR, want to do what you opponent want you to do, or you stand up and fight back?

    Dear Sam Rainsy,

Before you step foot on the Cambodian soil, I would like you to think harder. Is CPP and Yuons are going to favor you in any way? Is Phnom Penh court fair and find justice for you? Who will responsible for your safefy?

I urge you not to walk into crocodile's mouth (CPP). They will book you into jail as soon as you step in. This CPP/Yuon court will never be on your side or find justice for people who actually lost their land due to Viet encroachment. The bottom line is this CPP does not want to hear people crying or complaining for any thing under .

I think you should stay and fight from abroad until the right time comes. It is not the right time right now for you to come back.

    To Son of a farmer:

Sam Rainsy and Dr. King are two of admirable people who fight for freedom. You suggested for Rainsy returning back to Cambodia, and facing imprisonment or death. Is your advice a suicidal for Sam, and are you really true SRP supporter? You should know that dictator Hun Sen rules Cambodia, and the justice system is just a show. I will support Sam Rainsy returning back to Cambodia only if Cambodia’s justice system is fair.

It takes King Sihanouk 23 years to fight from the out side and to get his throne back. Haven't Mr.Sam Rainsey learn anything from this great King? His plane would have been shot down, if King decided to step back in Cambodia between 1970 and 1975. It's Lon Nol's country. If he dares to die then he can come in, but he made the right decision. He didn't. In May of 1975, he thought that it was safe for him to return. Well, King came in, but where was he? Mostly spending his time in jail. For What?! Cambodian continued to disappear and die without a trace one by one until 2 millions had added up. Still, we don't see him. King Sihanouk has to live on, because his belief and his voice will be heard one day and that one day came in 1993. Please know this for yourself, your Excellency. The UN had just approved $85 millions for the Khmer Rouge's court for this and next year and may be more. So watch where you going carefully. The condition in the Cambodian's jail won't be anywhere near the house arrest that KR kept the King. So you won't be turning 27 or getting any brighter idea in there. If not cancer that is going to get you, TB , distentary and other harmful deceases will and perhaps soon rather than later. Just a thought for your safety and good luck with your decision. If it opt to mine, it would be N & O.

    Son of farmer,

It is ways different between American and Cambodian jails, between the American justice system and the Cambodian justice system. I would encourage Rainsy to face justice in America because it is real justice, but I would never encourage him to face Cambodian justice because there is no justice. He might also be targeted for assassination in jail.
