On 06 August 2010, a high-ranking official for the National Assembly’s economy and finance committee [Cheam Yeap] asked the US to cancel the debt owed by the Lon Nol Khmer Republic regime as a repayment to Cambodia for the losses during the war between the US and Vietnam.
The request was made after Cambodia and the US are looking for a reasonable resolution to re-pay the US debt. Currently, Cambodia owes the US more than $300 million.

That's equivalent to $115.4 per bomb dropped on Cambodia during the Vietnam war. Nixon had issued a secrete order to drop 2.6 million bombs on Cambodia soil. Cambodia Government could easily file a lawsuit against the unintentional harm created by the US Gov during the Viet War by charging $10,000 per bomb dropped on Cambodia. This will reverse the debt back to the US instead. That would be 26 billion dollars.

Actually, the US bombing of Cambodia was far more extensive, and went on for longer, than is generally understood. It covered most of the country, destroyed massive numbers of ordinary Cambodian villages and people, and even involved the use of chemical warfare.
The US bombing was illegal, often top secret unknown even to the US Congress, and did far more damage to the Cambodian people and countryside than the so-called Vietnamese sanctuaries and Ho Chi Minh Trail.
If you or others fail to understand this, and only know the lying US propaganda, I invite you to do a little reading and find out the truth.

There was NO "sovereign nation in the South" of Viet Nam!!!
You should study some history.
The Geneva Agreement of 1954 did NOT establish two countries of North and South Viet Nam, despite the USA propaganda about that.
It was very specific that the division of VN into north and south was a "temporary, military demarcation line, not a territorial boundary."
This "temporary" division was to dissolve in 1956 under nationwide democratic elections, supervised by Canada, Poland & India, to form one national government for Viet Nam.
Everyone knew the popular Ho Chi Minh would win.
Even US President Eisenhower wrote that at least 80% of the people would have voted for national reunification under Ho Chi Minh, rather than the former French-puppet government in the south headed by the ex-king, and a Vietnamese catholic dictator from the USA!
So, what happened?
The southern Republic of Vietnam government, supported by the US, refused to hold the election! They even refused to begin the internationally-supervised process to set up the election!
So what could not be won by the ballot box, had to be won on the battlefield.
Responsibility for that, and all the terrible consequences, rest exclusively on the USA war mongers and their minority regime in the south.
As I say, try reading some reputable history books, instead of parroting the lies of the war profiteers!
