Vietnam, Cambodia aim to build peaceful border

VOV News (Hanoi)

Building a shared border of peace and friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia was the main topic of a conference held in the south -western province of Tay Ninh from July 30-31.

Co-organised by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) and the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland (SFDCM), the conference saw the attendance of VFFCC Vice President and General Secretary Vu Trong Kim and his Cambodian counterpart Min Khin, who is also Minister of Cults and Religions.

Representatives of the Vietnamese National Border Committee, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Border Guard High Command, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations and border provinces of both nations also attended the event.

At the conference, leaders of the two countries’ Fronts reviewed the results of the implementation of a joint statement signed on April 10, 2009 between Vietnamese and Cambodian border provinces.

The two sides agreed to improve the awareness of the Vietnam-Cambodia traditional solidarity and friendship among residents living along the border and increase the dissemination of the two countries’ policies, laws, agreements, treaties and regulations on the border and the protection of national sovereignty.

Strengthening the administrations in border provinces, calling for assistance from border residents in the border demarcation and marker planting, increasing the exchange of information and visits at all levels, organising training courses and sharing operational experiences are also considered major tasks of the two Fronts in the coming time.

The two sides also agreed to take turns holding similar conferences every two year to examine the performance of the signed cooperation agreements.

How is it possible the border markers on Cambodian farmer rice field? In the past the Vietcong government came up with the concept of white zone, buffer zone, and no man land! So the fucken border demarcation process started with Cambodian farmer rice field? ahhahhahahhaha

Only AH HUN SEN Vietcong puppet would believe in the Vietcong twisted logic border demarcation concept!

The whole border demarcation processes done by the Vietcong government and AH HUN SEN Vietcong puppet need to be re-examined and need to be more transparent for all Cambodian people to see!

Closing Remarks by Ambassador Carol Rodley at Academic Symposium

I’d like to thank all of the participants for making this such a fascinating and productive two days of discussions. It was unprecedented to gather such a group of experts on the U.S.-Cambodia relationship, and the discussions indeed lived up to the billing.

A lot has happened over the past 60 years, of course, and many of the key events we discussed resonated beyond Cambodia’s borders. But what struck me more than any single event was the resilience that we saw in those 60 years.

First, there was the resilience of the Cambodian people. They have shown great optimism and determination to endure decades of turmoil and come out on the other side, ready to build a prosperous and democratic nation.

The U.S.-Cambodian relationship has shown its share of resilience, too. As one would expect with any relationship between two nations, there were high points and missteps, periods of strength and periods of misunderstanding.

But the relationship has endured, and it is stronger now than it has ever been before. We are partnering in many areas that promote our common interests, including military and law enforcement cooperation, counterterrorism and POW/MIA matters, and economic development, among many others.

The United States is providing over $105 million in assistance this year, which includes programs in health, education, economic development and accountability in government. U.S. assistance is supporting the Royal Government of Cambodia’s humanitarian and development priorities, just as it did nearly 60 years ago when the original aid program was launched in 1955.

As we look forward to the next 60 years, I believe we have much to be optimistic about. We look forward to increasing and deepening our ties and working toward our mutual goals. While there is still much work to be done, I am confident that our common interests will see us through to an even stronger future together. Thank you.

I do wonder if the CPP representatives at these conferences ever allowed to speak or has it all been that the Vietcongs are ones doing the real talking and planning?!!!The CPP nation sellers are there only to provide the seal of approval and a rubber stamp to Vietcongs' daylight stealings.

So far with the border demarcation process, the Khmer are losing lands while the Viets are laughing at the illiterate and incompetent CPPs border representatives---because they are no better than their boss Dictator Hun Sen. These incompetent CPPs are good at stealing the wealth of the nation, selling out to foreigners, and nothing more.
