Question from our reader

Dear Sir/Madam,

We always heard from the radio and also saw in the newspaper about people living in Boeung Kak, the grey Building, near Chroy Changvar Bridge, or at Boeung Trabek being very worried about their eviction. Here is a question for you: the floating houses shown on the photo above are located opposite to the Royal Palace, about 2km away, why people living in these floating houses are not worried about their eviction, unlike those described above? Where is their restroom? Where do they relieve themselves? Please investigate.

Hoping to hear from you!

Regards,

no need to ask anyone. look at these floating huts are belong to yuon families who reside on, drinking from, cooking on, having shit in, urinating in, bathing in, fish raising in. These are yuon culture which I've known since I was a boy since sihanuk state leading lord (preah pramuk roat). yuon are allowed to resde like this, but Khmer are not allowed to reside even on their homeland.

oh you wait until they start bridging mekong river from phnom penh, etc, this area too will change into an urban of the ever-expanding city of phnom penh. i told you, once they put the modern infrastructure in place, the cambodia will change forever into a better country, a more modernized country, and that will be good for living standard, etc... god bless cambodia.

look at the map of cambodia, phnom penh will change into a metropolitan, vibrant capital city of cambodia!

Khmer usually live in the rice field, along the rivers not in the rivers.I lived in Phnom Penh in 1960-63.Yuon lived in Chroy Changvar, not lived in the opposite of the Royal Palace. Then when my wife and I went to visit Cambodia in 2004 and 2008.We saw Yuon living in floating houses or boats in the rivers. The picture I saw here are Yuon houses not Khmer because Khmer lived in the rice fields or fruit fields.

Most of the Viet who live in those floating houses have guns, ready and will kill any Khmer in any moments.
To some of you Khmer out there, please! don't fight the Viet's fight and don't call them youn on the world wild web, because the world hardly know who the Youn are. If you call them youn then make a quotation mark.(Viet-Namese.)Something like these so the world will know who these people are.
One live to live and die there is no reason not to fight the EVILS Viet to free ourselves.
When we dies we will go to heaven.
The Evils Viet dies they will BURN in HELL.

Dear! these people are YUON nation illegally enter in our territory under Mr.Hun Sen addministration. They're not worry any thing from eviction as long as this addministration alive. These Yuon, have more priveledge of ownrship then Khmer, they get 100% protection from the crony KH's GOVT. These people some how have right to kill any Khmer who swim or fishing near thier flaoting baots, there is no Khmer autority allow to investigete what they're doing, they are poluting khmer watter more then any one else, used engine oil, Acide dangerous Chemical just pour into the watter not to mention about their smelliest shits. The Yuon Chnuck Truo, Yuon Jonkhneas are the Khmer cops Killers. Overal these People have choices where they chose to not to worry about eviction, some group got financial support from the provicial GOVT such as those who live in Kampong Chnang province. My Q.. is, why w're the ways are we now?

    Dear Name withheld,
Where do you live? If you live outside of Cambodia you should join opposition party to understand this issue. If you live in Cambodia you must not vote for CPP.
Note: These people awaiting for politcal settlement from the government. The plan being discussed to give them $10,000.00
per family and they must live on land which mean the Hun Sen must find land for them to build their houses. If $10,0000.00 not enough they have option to request more but they have to proof that expenses must not exceed $15,000.00 per family.

The story of floating villages are the story of AH HUN SEN fail leadership for over 30 years to solve simple thing as this! It seems when AH HUN SEN chases these floating villages people up stream and they evade him by floating down stream and when he chases them down stream and they evade him by floating up stream!

I had been to Cambodia many times and I always see this floating village in front of the Royal Palace and it is such a sore sight. Here I am after on airplane flying thousand of miles away to Cambodia to enjoy the scenery after visiting the museum and the Royal Palace then this floating just hit me in the face! The floating village destroys all the Cambodian progress preached by Hun Sen over the years and the floating village will only reinforce that Cambodia always be a poor third world country as long as Hun Sen remain in leadership.
