Thai and Cambodian soldiers have briefly exchanged fire again on the the countries' shared border.

The clash comes hours after heavy clashes left one soldier and a civilian dead.

A military commander has confirmed the renewed gunfire broke out at around 6:00 am local time near the disputed Preah Vihear temple.

The fighting appeared to subside shortly afterwards.

One Thai soldier has reportedly been captured, but that there are no reports yet of any injuries.

Both countries accused the other of starting the fighting, the deadliest since April 2009, as the United States urged "maximum restraint".

The world heritage site has been declared part of Cambodia but remains disputed by Thai nationalists.

They are holding a sit-in in Bangkok over the issue.

Two prominent Thais this week were convicted of espionage after an ill-fated trip to inspect the site led to their arrest.

Now artillery fire and gunshots have been heard in the area.

Some local people have evacuated and an ambulance has been seen there.
