Phnom Penh – Chiv Keng, the president of the Phnom Penh municipal court, told DAP-news at 12:45PM on 29 Dec 2011 that Choung Chou-ngy, the SRP lawyer, was not arrested. Meanwhile, SRP officials claimed that the cops arrested the lawyer and he is currently taken to the ministry of Interior.

Chiv Keng told DAP-news over the phone that there was indeed a summons issued by the Kandal prosecutor ordering Choung Chou-ngy to present himself in court, but it is not set for today and there is no arrest made against Choung Chou-ngy by the cops either.

Chiv Keng stressed: “There is no arrest of Mr. Choung Chou-ngy, the lawyer of Sam Rainsy. Neth Savoeun, the national police commissioner, the prosecutor for the Kandal province all indicated that there was no arrest. But, there is a summons ordering him to show up in court, but it is not for today, therefore the information [of his arrest] is an exaggeration.”
