The Cambodian mine authority has found thousands of pieces of weapons and accessories stocked in an underground warehouse just down below a villager's residence in Sampov Loun district, Battambang province, an official told Xinhua on Monday.
"These piles of weapons and accessories were first spotted by villagers and a former soldier of civil war, who then reported it to the authority," said Khem Sophoan, head of the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC).
The buried ammunition weighed about five to six tons, while some of them were new and of good quality, he said.
The warehouse had been dug up for many times by soldiers looking for weapons for war, he added.
"The innocent people around were very lucky because there has been no explosion so far from the warehouse. It was also lucky that they realized the danger down below and reported it to the authority," he said.
In addition, some other weapon sites were discovered six kilometers away from the underground warehouse.
The excavated weapons included 2,300 gun bullets, artillery, floating mines against ships, B-40 and B-41 grenade bomb, and anti-tank bombs.
Cambodia was ravaged by years of wars. A lot of ammunition still circulates among its citizens and can not be reclaimed by the government.

And for all the authorities, please make sure all weapons are kept in the secure place. There are culprits who attempted to steal those weapons to sell or to kill innocent people. Especially, the cowerd police officers are the one who always stealing and robbing people. If any of them steal these weapons, make sure they pay their jail times.
