A coalition of local unions issued a statement for International Labor Day, May 1, urging the government and employers respect the rights of workers and labor laws and demanding deeper investigations into the murders of labor leaders.
The statement comes after a recent letter from international manufacturers to Prime Minster Hun Sen and other ministers calling for investigations into murders and intimidation of labor leaders.
Cambodia's turbulent labor sector has seen at least three murders since 2004. The latest, in February, has gone unsolved, and the first, of labor leader Chea Vichea, put two men in prison whom are widely believed innocent.
