Dear Editor,
I have observed that Sam Rainsy’s recent political actions seem to stand at odds with his efforts in the past to fight for truth and justice.
A case in point is the border issue with Vietnam.
What the public has taken away from growing tension over border demarcation along Cambodia’s shared border with Vietnam is that Sam Rainsy has used the existing disagreement to create additional problems.
A recent declaration by the Sam Rainsy Party stated that the border post uprooted by Sam Rainsy last October was one among several that were “fraudulently erected well within Cambodian territory” – a fact, the declaration states, that is borne out by historical maps and recent satellite photos.
The declaration asserts that “state-of-the-art computer programs” have provided hard evidence of fraud in the placement of border posts.
But what has Sam Rainsy done with this evidence?
He has urged foreign governments and international organizations to review this evidence in order to illustrate the false dealings of the Cambodian government.
But he has done nothing to illuminate what the SRP expects the country to do about the evidence to protect its territorial integrity.
Sam Rainsy did very well to combat falseness with truth, but how will the SRP move from truth to justice?
I would not expect Sam Rainsy to write a letter seeking Hun Sen’s leniency and the right to return to Cambodia and participate in the 2013 elections.
He has already stated that he has no intention of writing a letter of apology, but he has written to express regrets for some of the difficulties of the past.
But in my opinion, making apologies and expressing regrets in politics amounts to the same thing when one is looking for a political advantage.
It is my hope that Sam Rainsy will never again use Cambodia’s border dispute as a factor in his political game, as he did with the 1997 grenade attack when he filed a lawsuit against Hun Sen in a New York court and then later withdrew it.

As far as I am concerned, Sourn Serey Ratha is a loose canon. He has a lot to learn, and the question is can he learn?

Mr. Sam Rainsy has accomplished a great deal, alone with the exposure of Vietnam's encroachment on Cambodian territory. All Khmer should be proud and supportive of him and his party's fight against the swallowing of Cambodia by Vietnam.
ReplyDeleteSourn Serey Ratha, is asking for Mr. Rainsy and SRP to come up with a solution to the border problem, as if Hun Sen and CPP would allow Mr. Rainsy and SRP the opportunity. Hun Sen and CPP are doing everything in their power to lock up and silence Mr. Rainsy. Sourn Serey Ratha, shows a lack of understanding of the political climate that Mr. Rainsy and SRP has to deal with. From the lifting of Mr. Sam Rainsy's immunity, his closed door trial and his two year sentencing are indicators that the ruling party wants to stop him in his track! Hun Sen and CPP has made it clear that they are not interested in discussions regarding the border issue. THey are happy giving away Cambodian land to Vietnam. They are not interested in talking to Mr. Rainsy and SRP, to come up with a solution to the border problems, this would only further expose all of their traitorous acts and dealings.

What are a heck on earth is this person talking about? Khmer farmlands are being robbed by the Vietnamization policy in daylight. Are you calling Sam Rainsy and all Khmer compatriots to praise for the Ghost Ho Chi Minh come back to save us ALL when our country is being destroyed by the Vietcongs?!
Sourn Serey Ratha is a hypocrite after all. Sourn Serey Ratha is a full of non sense and absurd. The inaction and the silence from the CPP government and the King is the biggest concern to this situation. Every nation on earth would raise a red alert when it comes to border encroachments by other nation!!!
The real issue here is the current Border Committee is run by Var Kim Hong, who is the puppet the dictator Hun Sen, and Dictator Hun Sen is the puppet of the Vietcongs. Everything is done in secrecy and Sourn Serey Ratha expects all Khmer compatriots to close our eyes and ears and pretend nothing happens!!!! Absurd and non-sense is for Mr. Sourn Serey Ratha.
If the Cambodia Border Committee is conducted by civil institution and free from Hun Sen's influence, then yes charge Mr. Sam Rainsy if he causes problem and interferes the committee's fair and transparent work.

ReplyDeleteMr. Rainsy and SRP would be able to move from truth to justice if the Kangaroo courts in Cambodia wasn't under the control of the Dictatorship of Hun Sen!
How can you deter from the truth and bring up a non-issue that is not valid in the political climate such as this, you should be writing about how the court of law is bias and unfair and only works in the favor of Hun Sen and the ruling party's agenda!

That is why cambodia is in the state that it is, too many incompetent people, who can't process or think logically. He should direct his energy and anger towards Hun Sen and CPP, instead he is picking on Mr. Rainsy, who is fighting to protect Cambodia territorial integrity!

Here you admitted the border posts were erected inside the Cambodia. Then why are you or your boss CCP prosecuting Sam Rainsy? Why don’t the court reverse its decision on Sam’s conviction. You claimed the posts were fraudulently erected. If that is the case, you should find those incompetent officials. Base on historical documents about the border on both east and west, I don’t those border posts were fraudulently erected, but deliberately placed!

Khmer must find way to work with Viet because for thousand of years we have had a good relationship with each other until the white colonial. At the moment khmer population are half Vietkhmer accept that they could not speak viet because we have been integrated. So, forever we need each other to build a great nation as the more people we have the better. Therefore, we need to learn to follow the flow as we are living in the 21st century not world war 1 or II. Love and respect and share are the answers for all.
