Prime real estate lands near Angkor Wat temple in Siem Reap belonging to Mr. Son Chhay (pictured), MP from the opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP), could be confiscated by the Apsara Authority, the body managing the conservation of Angkor areas, as early as 1st April, reports Radio Free Asia.

Mr. Son Chhay told RFA on Saturday afternoon , 27th March, that he had received information that the High Court will send him a letter to inform him that it will order the confiscation of his lands on 1st April. "I heard that it (High Court) will send a letter to me about the confiscation of my lands on the 1st of April. They will not take my lands for free, they will pay me 50 cents per square metre and I heard that they will sell those lands to Oknha Sok Kong for $80 per square metre since 2006, since before the court reached its verdict. These actions are illegal actions and I am very concerned because I owned these lands since 1995. I have planted vegetable, many mango trees, banana trees and jackfruit trees on those lands and there are few poor families living on the lands whom I help to feed", he told RFA.

Mr. Son Chhay said his 3-hectare lands are located very close Kyungyu tourist site in Siem Reap where he had bought since 1995. Later, the Apsara Authority under the control of Deputy PM Sok An, said that the lands are located within the Apsara Conservation Area and that they must be confiscated. He said he had fought with the authority and the court for many years and now he is appealing to all foreign embassies to help monitor his case.

If that 3-ha land belongs to one of those CPP, Ah Sok An does not dare touch it. Because it belongs to the opposition, of course, Ah Sok An is strongly challagne to destroy it. No justice in Cambodia. The opposition is always lose.

    Death to CPP always!

This is corruption at its highest level. Sok An want to rob from Son Chhay and sell for a big profit to his crony Sok Kong. Is this a case of robbing from the poor to give to the rich?

We must hang public officials by the law and through freedom of speech. Khmer call on to radio shows, tv talks, to CTN, TVK, and Bayon and on air embarrassed and publicly denounces the actions of these officials.

When the whole of Cambodia see and hear clearly themselves these people will be hanged and Khmer will win.

All Khmer call in to TV station say nice things first so you are not cut off then straight out expose the official. Cutting you off on live TV is hard.

We must exercise this power of free speech and no one can arrest us.

Dare to challenge if you want change!

Govt....please don't high behind the name of development of the country that you have the right to confiscate the land from the people...in your mind you know this too. there's a good reason why they should minority party as a minority because minority party are ineffective, and their members are more corrupted than the current administration. one thing they all seemed to live overseas where they hide their money in foreign banks, etc... they are hypocrite, indeed!

1:52 PM, the corrupt one is Sok An who want to confiscate Son Chhay's land for 50 cents/m2 and re-sell it to his friend Sok Kong for $80/m2. Son Chhay didn't steal this land, bought this land with his own money 15 years ago. Sok An is the most corrupt person in Cambodia, probably more corrupt than Hun Sen. Most of prime real estate lands in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap or Sihanoukville belong to this corrupt Sok An!
