The Cambodian opposition leader in exile, Sam Rainsy, says the government has used a subservient court to try to silence him.

He was sentenced to a further 10 years in prison in absentia over a border dispute that involves Vietnam.

Mr Rainsy says he has maps - internationally verified - to prove that Vietnam has been moving border posts further and further into Cambodia.

He says Cambodian farmers are losing valuable land.

Crack down

It is not the first time that he has been sentenced in absentia.

Mr Rainsy, in self-imposed exile in France, told Radio Australia: "The current government is using a politically subservient court to crack down on critics of the government."

He accuses Vietnam of using its influence over Cambodian in the case.

He has been fined for spreading disinformation and received a two-year sentence in January.

O come on idiot, no body silence you for speaking out or criticize government, you are doing it all your life, no body arrest you or send you to court for that. The reason you are in trouble right now is not because you criticize government, but because you pull out the border post.

You want the media attention, but forget to think that the action can give the government the weapon to sue you.

Now you are so desperate, going around the world crying and asking for help. No body going to help you. You can either find a job and live in France or come back to Cambodian jail. Your choice.

Cambodia is not silencing you, it is Hun Sen and his court. I am part of Cambodia, but I do not silence you. You did the right by pulling that illegal border post allowing Youn encroachment on our soil, and we khmers stand behind you. The above commentor is a traitor to Cambodia and Cambodians.

This is another effort to make a mockery to Cambodian people who voted for the CPP.

This is another effort to silence the rests of Cambodian dissents.

  4. Ultimately, this is another effort to achieve the lasting friendship and comprehensive cooperation attempted by Vietnam with their former client, the CPP and Hun Sen government.

    Bravo Vietnam!

It is true that Vietnam has been border posts farther and farther into Cambodia. I am living in Kompong Cham province. Someone can saw a rice sack mouth, but someone can not saw my mouth or blind my eyes.Khmer people who are living at the Khmer-Vietnam border are knowing it.There are some people here who are blind eyes and deaf ears, and also blind heart.

    My Fellow Khmers:

I have tremendous respects for both Mr. Sam Rainsy and Mr. Khem Sokha, and I believe these two respectable elders have lasting roles to contribute to Cambodia future. However, given the current circumstances, I humbly think it is time for them to pass on the torch and elect a new figure to head the merged opposition. The two gentlemen can act as honourable founders and personal advisers to the new leader.

I'm a younger generation willing and able to lead the new party. If asked, I will lead with strength and determination. I will take a pro-active and non-partisan approach to build the momentum. If I do not deliver results within five years, I'm committed to step down for a new leader.

It is grand time for all of us to be the master of our destiny. The nation can not afford to wait, and expects us to take our political platform to the next level. I represent the new generation of know-how, and together I have utmost confidence in our abilities to do the right things for the country.

Join me, walk with me and be part of the change you want to be!

sam rainsy is so blinded to see how his "living outside" of the country effected his prospect of winning. i think most khmer prefer the leader to live in cambodia and conduct business in cambodia, not in some refugee status way overseas. no wonder he always not favored by the khmer people in cambodia, at least! wake up, people, if your old tactics is not working, it is wise and smart and clever to change or reform that, ok! this is not the dark ages anymore, you know! get rid of that outdated mentality! it's useless in the computer age, really!

It's about time to replace Sam Rainsy. The guy is coward and clueless. Even Mu Sochua is braver than him. She stand her ground and he is not afraid to go to jail, and now see that the government dare not do anything to her. SR have a lot to learn from Mu Sochua. I think we should appoint Mu Sochua to be SRP leader now and change the party name back to its old name the Nationalist Party.

Let SR stay in France and work his profession as a banker. May be he will be more happy and make a living that way.
