Former Khmer Rouge Brother No 2 Nuon Chea testified yesterday that he was “concerned” for the future of his country because of what he claimed were territorial ambitions of Vietnam, echoing earlier testimony in describing the situation as “a snake which tries to suffocate a rabbit”.
Under questioning from his co-defence counsel, Michiel Pestman, about his early life, Nuon Chea said he did not know “what the future will hold” for Cambodia.
The 85-year-old defendant said that while in the past the two countries had cooperated, the “Vietnamese were regarded as enemies because they had the ambition to swallow Kampuchean territory”, Nuon Chea said.
“They were just ready and prepared to swallow us, even at present.”
Trial Chamber president Nil Nonn asked that Nuon Chea respond only to questions that were asked of him and stay within the confines of the first “mini-trial” of Case 002.
During evidence hearings in December last year, Nuon Chea testified that Vietnam had attempted to “swallow” Cambodia, in comments that prompted criticisms from civil parties and court observers.
Student Chhoeun Vathana, 17, who attended yesterday’s hearing, said he had been told that people from Cambodia and Vietnam had never liked each other.
“I heard from my grandfather that Khmer and Vietnam never liked each other,” he said.
“They always had arguments and sometimes they fought.”
Nuon Chea also testified that he had been in contact with current National Assembly President Heng Samrin and Senate President Chea Sim – both former Khmer Rouge cadre before fleeing to Vietnam to join the resistance against the regime – after he returned to Cambodia in the pre-1975 period.
Under earlier questioning from civil party lawyer Barnabé Nékuie, Nuon Chea said people who lived and worked in cooperatives in the countryside were not permitted to leave.
“If they were to live in the cooperatives they could not go anywhere, they would stay and live and work in the cooperatives,” he said.
Nuon Chea testified on Monday that he was not responsible for cooperatives organised by the Khmer Rouge.
Yes the Vietnamese ambition to annex Cambodia exist six hundred years already ,in 1600 we khmers were erased from the world by Vietnamese once but at present time if the UN and the world can't save khmers race we will BE GONE BY THE VIENAMESE because they are every where in Cambodia.

ReplyDeleteI totally support what Nuon Chea say about yuon ambition to put Lao and Cambodia under yuon annex and exterminate ethnic Cambodians from our own homeland ( Cambodia ) by keeping influx millions of yuon into Cambodia as part of Indochina Federation.

In front of a very serious charge of genocide and crimes against humanity, Nuon Chea , the N° 2 of Democratic Kampuchea, which must now answer for his acts of genocide and crimes against humanity has to find a very strong argument to defend himself and all he found as arguments is he did not know that there was a genocide under the Democratic Kampuchea and he is the true patriot, he loves and defends Kampuchea against the Vietnamese annexation. So the other Khmer who disagreed with him and Pol pot were traitors and therefore good to be murdered and killed?.

Indeed,
In 1975, when the civil war ended, the United States were gone. Why did not hold free elections to set up a new constitution? a new democratically elected national assembly, and a new government to run the country? Why Pol Pot confiscated power itself in 1975 and declared war against Vietnam without consulting the khmer people? why Pol Pot team made assassin all other Khmer Rouge who did not share his political and ideology vision on the fate of Kampuchea?
The defense of the sovereignty, territorial integrity of a country depends on its people.
The people must be consulted through free elections, referendums, or through its parliamentarians on all important issues and especially issues of war and peace. Because with war the fate of the whole people is concerned.
War is a very serious thing for a country and a nation. The people must be democratically consulted for war because it is important to remember if we lost the war, we also lose the territories ...and because if the people are consulted to make war, the responsibility for the defeat or victory is shared collectively by the people and the nation and in this case, we can not accuse anyone.
As Khmer, I do not delight in the loss of our territories. But it is the clan of Pol Pot and his team is responsible not only khmer genocide but also the recent loss of Khmer territory if there is loss of territories.
True patriotism is a true democracy, free elections, and the people must be consulted on all important issues affecting its future as war or peace.
This is not the case for demoratic Kampuchea of Pol Pot and Nuon Chea. For Pol Pot and Nuon Chea, Cambodia is their private property, they do what they wanted in Cambodia between 1975-1979.
Therefore, faced with insurrectional forces anti Pol Pot helped by VN, Democratic Kampuchea of Pol Pot and his team were very quickly dropped. Because the Khmer people have simply abandoned Pol Pot, the dictator and murderer of the Khmer people.

Now we need to go forward into the future so we will not have the same mistakes.
I wish you luck to explain the current Cambodian situation vis-à-vis Vietnam to the strongman Hun Sen, but beware many people tried but they ended up thrown in jail, killed or ran away from the country.
The best thing for Cambodia is to move closer to the US & its allies, not with Communist China. Look at the problems the Chinese people, majority of whom are still living in poverty, are facing in China itself, human rights, toxic consumption, corruption, lack of food and high unemployment in areas other than the developed coastal cities. What make one thinks that China will treat Khmers better than their own people, who are also pouring into Cambodia and claiming many parts of Cambodia as China town thru land-grapping corrupted Khmer officials. Same things have happened in other parts of the world where Chinese came to settle in mass. Exclusive China towns and utilization of local resources, all at the expense of the locals. Cambodia should try to ally with the West by starting to have more political and personal right policy and implimentation first. A good example is Myamar, which has one the most repressive regim, is now opening up, distancing itself from China, and being welcomed by the West.
ReplyDeleteof course, when the KR leaders were so stupid and ignorant for killing their own people and destroying cambodia as a whole, the viet/youn and other khmer historical enemies will take advantage of that destruction, that chaos, that weakness, that ignorance, etc to "swallow" cambodia, you see. it was the stupid KR regime's own fault then. now that cambodia was given a second life, a second chance, etc, those historical enemies can't do that to cambodia because there are rule of law, international law, the world is watching them, etc. you see the difference, how stupid can your dumb KR regime was, especially for killing your own people by starvation, food depravation, medical needs depravation, abuse of human rights, genocide, stone age economy, isolation from the rest of the world, etc, etc. how stupid can your dumb KR regime get at that time! of course, the historical enemies were silavating or hungried to swallow and colonize and steal from cambodia during your oppressive regime rule. still you stupid asshole commies won't get away from what you did to cambodia and khmer people then, ok!

3:35 AM I agreed with your opinions on free election power rest with National Assembly but disagree with you on constitutional change because after Khmer Republic collapsed, KR forces were not sufficient strengths to hold back Viet Cong long enough to have time to consul the peoples for war with Viets.
ReplyDeleteAfter Vietname defeat U.S. and it's ally, their military at this time were battle harden and Soviet and PRC armed them to the teeth with modern weapons. Pol Pot and blood thirsty Sihanouk biggest mistakes was to kill every Khmer Republic soldiers. They could have assimilate them into KR forces, then they have sufficient to fight back the Viets. FUCKING SIHANOUK WAS SOO INTO REVENGE AGAINST KHMER REPUBLIC for overthrow him. Sihanouk and Pol Pot clans order all killed.
Vietname has always and will be in the future has ambitions to make Cambodia another Kampuchea Krom unless we could find a real true Khmer Leader who will not betray his country. ONLY I could do was to pray that China go to war with Vietname over those islands.
