Mr. Sam Rainsy, the leader of the opposition, had explained to the public his personal achievements and those of his party since his return home more than a month ago.

On Friday, Mr. Sam Rainsy said that he had received numerous letters from people seeking interventions on various issues, and he had worked on these issues with the government which had provided positive response to help the living of the people.

Mr. Sam Rainsy said: “What was resolved first were land problems, the problems involving land grabbing by powerful people on poor people. I interacted with Mr. Hun Sen, and Mr. Hun Sen agreed to intervene on behalf of the people whose lands were grabbed so they can get their lands back. There was also the problem of small merchants who were kicked out of their stalls, and [now] they have the right to go back to sell at their stalls again. There was the problem of workers on strike, they did not want to return to work because the factory owner did respect the right of these workers, this problem was also resolved and the workers have since returned back to work. Therefore, it can be seen that the interventions from the government, especially from Samdech Hun Sen, through the request made by the Sam Rainsy Party, have produced good results, and are advantageous to the people who are victimized, in particular, the farmers, the merchants, and the workers.”

The Sam Rainsy Party which has 24 members in the National Assembly did not receive any position [within the National Assembly committees] because of their various boycotts, and later on the upheaval which saw the self-exile of Mr. Sam Rainsy.

Mr. Sam Rainsy said that since his return home on 10 Feb, he and his party were determined to find some redress which he believes his party should obtain, in particular for some positions in the National Assembly.

Mr. Sam Rainsy said: “The Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) has the right to participate in all 9 expert committees of the National Assembly, and now, there is an agreement to provide two committee presidencies [for SRP] to lead. Therefore, the SRP is also involved in the National Assembly leadership. On the basis of democracy and justice, there should be a division of positions proportional to the number of seats occupied by SRP in the National Assembly, and we should receive our share of responsibility according to the number of votes and seats we received in the National Assembly.”

It should be recalled that the national authority for the resolution of land dispute is also participated by one SRP member, Mr. Eng Chhay Eang, who acts as the vice-president of this important institution.
