Sydney, Australia

Opposition leader Sam Rainsy, President of the Sam Rainsy Party, arrived in Sydney, Australia, at 1 PM, on 15 February 2008. He was accompanied by Mr. Khy Vandeth, Sam Rainsy Party chief for Kampong Chhnang province.

After a warm welcome by many party members in Australia, Mr. Sam Rainsy gave a lengthy interview to SBS Radio station Khmer program.

Following a brief rest, Mr. Sam Rainsy visited Mrs. Kim Lang Thoeung, a long time and committed party member and supporter, who is terminally ill at Braeside Hospital, Fairfield, Eastern Sydney Suburb. Holding her hand at her bedside Mr. Sam Rainsy paid his deep respect and thanked her for all the hard work and contributions she had made toward the party and her country for many years. He prayed for her soul and at the same time offered sympathetic encouragement to the grieving family members gathering around her. Mr. Sam Rainsy also firmly assured her that the Party will win the July national elections and that her efforts to date will not be in vain.

At this public hospital Mr. Sam Rainsy was very impressed with the high standard of health care service provided free of charge and human dignity and respect accorded to their sick citizens by the Australian Government.

At 6 PM on that same day, Messrs. Sam Rainsy and Khy Vandeth visited a group of Khmer farmers and supporters and enjoyed a Barbeque party with them at Wetherill Park, Eastern Sydney suburb. The pair exchanged views and information about Australian farming, they were also impressed with the high standard of living of farmers in Australia . They went on to update our compatriots on the latest situation in Cambodia.

Health care services in Australia is alway free of charge, however, government has urged its citizens to take medical insurance to top up out off pocket expenses in case they need emergency treatment or surgery in private or public hospital by a public or private doctor of their choice.

All Australian citizen [no matter people with high or low income, a permanent and lawful resident citizen of Australia or Australian citizen, a newly migrant Etc..] hold a medicare card which entitle them to free medical consultation fee at most bulk bill general practitioners [doctor], x-ray and other services available under the government approved scheme.

The money to fund this health system is derived from government funds as well as from the citizens by paying a percentage from their income set by the government when they lodge their income tax return at end of the financial year.

For people classified as low income earner are entitle to health care card which entitle them to pay low price on medicines approved and classified under the scheme instead of full price.

Most Cambodian politicians have been traveled abroad and they have seen and understood how the health care there is working. Wish that our politicians can do little or more to relief the burden for its citizen if not all as in industrialized country.

The pair exchanged views and information about Australian farming, they were also impressed with the high standard of living of farmers in Australia.

Farming in the particular area mentioned is not large scale farming but rather family or small medium farming. The so called agro-industrial farmings are in remote country sides where have been hit by drought for the last decades and are currently receiving relief funds from government.

I hope some days Cambodia can achieve a fraction of what Australia has achieved in economic, political, and military!

To 2:46 PM

Cambodia will one day achieve what Australia has had but will require might will powers.

Economic: It is booming in particular the mining sector.

Political: a handful of political parties representing people in both houses of parliament [federal] I.e: Labor [is currently governing the country], Liberal/National [coalition party] is opposition, Green and democrat [2 minor party]. The trust is politic here is opened and transparency but doesn't mean that there no back room deal [it a deal that allow government to pass any bills with minor party or opposition]

Military: numbers of service man and woman is small comparing to other country [population just over 20 million], not ample of sophisticated or modern military hardware as in USA, Britain or France

Great Leadership, Sam Rainsy!!!
Great Leadership, Sam Rainsy!

I have always supported your enduring works to bring just and advancement to Cambodia.

I can notice that your answer in here is highly reflective to your charismatic leadership in contemporary Cambodia.

I can see your win-win strategy is: incorporative, not competitive; corporation, not confrontation.

The winner is not SRP or Sam Rainsy, but the winner is Cambodian peoples and our beloved nation.

When Cambodian peoples vote for Sam Rainsy to become prime minister, it doesn't mean Sam Rainsy is prime minister, but it means Cambodian peoples will have social just, sufficient employment, basic rights, dignity, and national harmony.

All CPP's members and current officials are highly respected and remained you all in the same position according to your experiences, capacity, and devotion.

Dear KY [5:05 AM];

Thank you for your compliment on the above comments but I can't accept it, and I am sorry.

If you think that I am SR, I must say that I am not SR but a simple person who has no political blood or connection to any political party or politician - just a simple person who follow the politic in Cambodia for personal interest and understanding on how politic would effect the life of its citizens in hoist country, how people who react, decide and their vision in their leader or individual political party.

The winner is not SRP or Sam Rainsy, but the winner is Cambodian peoples and our beloved nation.

Your above comment is attracting my personal support on your conscious and vision for the entire nation. All I can say "If all political parties and politicians [no matter which party they belong to] could work side by side instead of boycotting or blocking bill from becoming law, and should they see the common grounds on issues: such as development of country, basic rights, health and uplifting the living standard of its people then the country will be advancing and moving forward.

Am not trying to dig out past action, however, when I look back during the 2003 campaign, in particular, campaign by the FUNCIPEC. Noticed and quoted FUNCIPEC and its leader and members alike voiced their concerns over corruption within the government". In the matter of fact they were tumbled on their own words - They were at the time junior partner in government.

SRP has lot potential and can do much better if SR himself can find a way to convince people during this up-coming campaign.

Will definitely visit your site and leave comment there.

Have a nice day
