“Despite past rumours and past denials, people are not easily gullible enough to believe that Mr. Hun Sen has given up the idea of a political dynasty. This time, by constantly and publicly berating and castigating the critics of his son’s possible entering into the political arena, Mr. Hun Sen has no doubt left the impression that people are seeing a political dynasty in the making in Cambodia.”The issue of Hun Manet succeeding his father, Prime Minister Hun Sen, has popped up so very often that deserves my attention and warrants my comments. But before I launch into a barrage of personal opinions and factual history, I would like to draw some analogy in regard to Mr. Hun Sen’s future political dynasty. (Read Hun Sen's speech about Hun Manet's political future here).
It is interesting to note that, while the PM has constantly likened himself to Sdech Korn, a usurper of peasant background who assassinated the king and enthroned himself, he has not yet likened himself to Attila the Hun (AD 434), a conqueror whose Hunnic Empire spanned across Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Considering that the great Mongolian conquerors, Genghis Khan (1162-1227) and his grandson, Kublai Khan (1215-1294) had claimed to have descended from the Huns (pronounced ‘hunt as in hunting’), and with a surname of Hun (this one pronounced ‘Houn’), one would have expected the PM to make claims to have been descended from the Huns as well, rather than likening himself to a re-incarnation of Sdech Korn, a mediocre king, who was nothing without his brutal usurpation.
History aside and let’s move to the topic of discussion- Mr. Hun Sen’s grooming of his son to succeed him as the prime minister.
It’s been well known within the Cambodian political circle that Prime Minister Hun Sen has been trying to groom his son, Hun Manet, as a future Cambodian leader some time ago. During the 1998 election, there has been rumours that Mr. Hun Sen had unsuccessfully floated the idea of appointing Hun Manet to the position of Commander-in-Chief and Minister of Defence.
In order to put the rumours to rest, in 2007, Mr. Hun Sen has hysterically and strenuously denied the rumours that Hun Manet was about to stand as a member of parliament in the seat of Siem Reap province. Mr Hun Sen’s denial has not put the rumours to rest, because people viewed Hun Manet’s persistent and continuous charity works as an attempt to shore up his good guy image in preparation for his political future. And as early as this week, Mr. Hun Sen has publicly declared that he would like Hun Manet to serve in the army. His political detractors see this as yet another sign of Hun Sen using a military career as a stepping stone for Hun Manet to enter the political arena.
Despite past rumours and past denials, people are not easily gullible enough to believe that Mr. Hun Sen has given up the idea of a political dynasty. This time, by constantly and publicly berating and castigating the critics of his son’s possible entering into the political arena, Mr. Hun Sen has no doubt left the impression that people are seeing a political dynasty in the making in Cambodia.
One more unconvincing reason is that, it is very uncharacteristic and peculiar of Mr. Hun Sen to launch a pre-emptive strike of denials, before people even heard the accusations about his son’s political future. By denying before the accusations had been made, Mr. Hun Sen has no doubt left the impression that he is in a defensive mode and that, due to his persistence and perseverance, Mr. Hun Sen is actually grooming his son to succeed himself.
Hun Manet’s political venture or the lack of it, has been a constant issue that has shaken Mr. Hun Sen’s Cambodian People’s Party’s (CPP) circle to the core. The ideas that Mr. Hun Sen is grooming his son to be his successor has caused a stir within the minds of the CPP’s old guards who sternly opposed the ideas.
To political old-timers, Hun Manet is has all the traits and characteristics to lead Cambodia. Arming himself with good qualifications from American universities (a bachelor from Westpoint, a Masters from Georgetown University(?) and a Ph.D from UK’s University of Bristol), Hun Manet certainly has the potential to be Cambodia’s next generation of leaders, but people would argue that he has to achieve his political ambitions on his own merits, and not to depend on his father to prop him up.
Qualified or not, many of the CPP’s old guards, the likes of Chea Sim and Heng Samrin, who had worked hard and eyed the PM position for more than 50 years, will resent the fact that a young and inexperienced political novice could just appear from nowhere and get the job without having to work hard for it. And this, they would never allow it to happen.
Whether Mr. Hun Sen will succeed in grooming his son to be his successor remain to be seen. He is politically cunning and a very expedient politician. He is a master of tactician who are always three steps ahead of his political opponents. And with his tenacity, he might succeed one day. But, many seasoned political observers would like to argue that, one day, his expedience and political shenanigan will be his own undoing, because other CPP’s old guards will never allow him to always outsmart them and step on their heads all the time.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
We would like to introduce the group
of Xmer Lkorn Bassac of Toul Krasaing.
Hun Sen will work hard to make it possible for Hun Manet to succeed him, but I believe that it will never happen because other CPP leaders, who want the PM job as well, will never allow Hun Manet to succeed Hun Sen. One other thing is, unlike Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore, Hun Manet has no solid political base to stake a claim to the PM post.
No thank, Gorilla Fuckers; we got better thing to do than to listen to stupid propaganda.
With mulit-degrees achieved and had under his belt; ranging from Bachelore to Master and Ph.D from both the USA and UK, in particular the Westpoint [where many young Americans are dreaming to be a graduate]Hun Manet certainly has the potential and well-equipped himself to be in the leadership role in either private sector and politic should he wish to take upon.
Believing in the "Constitution" stipulated a clause on age restriction for young people who want to be in politic, and therefore I personally can see young Hun Manet would be in politic any sooner. However, at the mean time; he is in the good postion to groom himself and be ready entring the politic arena [should he wish] with most available guidances from his father's subordinates who are either ministers and advisors as his personal mentor[s].
It would be interesting also to see the leadership style and the differences young Hun Mate could do for the country, considering the insight knowledge he has learned and seen under the leadership of his father and the diffrent democratic systems in both the USA and UK.
Personally, I cannot foresee that this could happen at all. In matter of fact, Cambodia nowadays is quite different from Cambodia decades ago, in particular, the political structures which are drastically and completely changed and there are majority [parties that are currently seating in the National Assembly and Senate such as CPP, FUNCIPEC, SRP] and minority [NRP, HRP and others] political parties contesting in any commune and general election.
Personally, I strongly beleived the "Constitution" would not allow to be hand picked or handed down the leadership to any particular person except to be elected by people through the general election or who are currently presumed the title of deputy-PM.
Personally, I strongly beleived there will definitely chains of reactions from people from all walks of life and in particular within the CPP - the hardliners and old guards who would bitterly oppose to such a hand down of leadership role.

4:47PM,
A very sensible rationale. I can concur your viewpoint on this topic. Hun Sen can try to get Hun Manet to succeed him but I don't see it happen, unless Hun Manet can work his way up later on in his political career if he chooses to involve in politics. If Hun Sen and his cronies try to prop up Hun Manet now the other CPP leaders will not allow it to happen.
This family look like completely YUON Hanoi
I've heard the rumors that HUN SEN is having irritating feeling with HOK LUNDY. Soon or later, these two guys will be disowning each other. HUN SEN doensn't trust HOK LUNDY. Cause HOK LUNDY think he is #1 Mafia in Cambodia. And in that case only HOK LUNDY can decide who is to keep or who is to abandon or to kill. HUN SEN got really furious about him. CPP has a lot of internal problems. If they win the election, after the election they reshuffle some cabinet positons. I don't think HUN SEN let HOK LUNDY do whatever he wants.
6:55PM, i heard about the rumours too. Hun Sen wanted to get rid of Lundy long time agao but he can't because Lundy is too smart and too strong. Other thing is that Hun Sen needs Lundy to protect his power and Lundy needs Hun Sen to get power and position. They need each other but they don't like and trust each other. Even sok An is at odds with Hun Sen. Hun Sen is jealous with Sok An's popularity and power. Sok An is very powerful now. He can get all Hun Sen bodyguard leaders and military and govt. leaders to follow his orders, that's why Hun Sen is jealous with him.
All of them are robbers of our nation. Please vote for the CPP to be perished if people want to be well off in the future; otherwise people will go deeper and deeper in the hell poverty.
Well if Hun Sen could be compared to Genhis Khan, we should be proud of our country and leader.
Still, I think Hun Sen is just the king of an island. Like frog's king in well.
Khmer Canadian
So what if? When Manet is ready, if he ever will and wants to, the old CPP guard will be dead. So the speculation of stopping a clan from passing power down to their sons irrelevant. Working democracies have done this as well with the U. S. an example in point, the the Adams, Kennedys, the Bushes, the Clintons, etc.
But watch Kith Meng. He will be ready sooner. He's got all the money he needs and wants, wait till he wants the real power to go with it.

rumors heard that Hun Sen wants to create another political party of which his son will be the leader. That way he can get rid of his numerous opponents inside the CPP. On top of it, he could undo all the political pasts linking him to communist Vietnam. But Khmer people will not forget this. No way! We will wait and see what will be his next step with repest to his son entering politic.
CPP will be fighting each alot cause HUN SEN kept bringing in more members.
I would vote for manet to come into politics. He sounds like he has the potential to lead the country.
Hun Manet is working hard helping his poor people. He visits and bring food and clothes to the poor people at rural areas since he went back to Cambodia. He is doing his humanitarian work that was what he wants to do not what his father wants.
Manet is smart and he wants to earn respect and credits on his own not through his idiot father.
Since KI is very biased, the people don't see what Manet is doing.
Manet is 30 years old and he is old enough to enter politics but not when his father is in power.
My beloved Khmers!
Once again, forgive me for arrogantly envying Manet's higher education.
According my dull observation of Khmer PoliSick and languishly reflectional comprehension of Khmeritude and of Khmer's mentality, We Khmers always obviously suffer in our pursuit of philosophical and, especially, poliSickal knowledge, each of leaders in the modern society, (Sihanouk, Lon Nol, Pol Pot, Hun Sen, and Hun Manet in the future, if noboby can defeat CPP) has repeatedly used by the foreigners, because of our prideful and arrogant mentality, of our suffocating nation has selfishly disease..Only I can rule?
How old is this acticle or may the writer had been away from Cambodian news for so long?
Hun Manet is now groome to be the operator of an oppressing and killing machine! Called Cambodian Royal Military Police! The Unit that he commend is an nwe greated unit call FAST INTERVENTION and fanancially support by the great USA!
This Military police position will give Manet to experiance and contacted with both the Army of King Kim and the police force of Hok Landy!
This Unit can use to protect Hun Xen if his bodyguard unit is out of commission or betray him!
To move into politic with support from the killing forces is the only way that the uneducated PHD from Hanoi Vietname black teeth Youn know and comfortable to show his only educated son how to gain power and continue his hope of evil dynasty!
- Hun Manet is the son of Bun Sam Heang-her first husband. He is not son of Hun Sen- Bun Sam Heang
- All children of Hun Sen-Bun Sam Heang are idiots.
Note:
- Hun Sen is the 2nd husband of Bun Sam Heang since 1980
- and Bun Sam Heang is the 2nd wife of Hun Sen since 1980
- Bun Sam Heang is the real name of Bun Rany
bodyguard
12"16am forget your cheap nonesene! loook in the picture who is look alot like Hun Xen? mouth, eyes, and face forme?

Is he Youn after all? Could anyone shed some light on it?
For someone who rumored about Kith Meng in the PM's seat. I know his cousin personally. He never wish that high and so headache in that position. His families and relative never dream for that position.
11:47,
Doesn't this remind you of the Saddam Hussein Clans?
The son of Saddam is in control of the military.
I'm predicting that the Hun Clans will end up like the Saddam Clans. DEAD!
If a son with a Westerner degrees is incapable of convincing his father that Cambodia is not progressing, then he needs to removed himself from politics.
2:18am don't be a fool you do not know what yourself want until you get kick by the head!
So dumb this guy!
Looks like Cambodia is in good hands; that is with good and healthy leader. We don't want no poor slob.
10:24PM, i haven't heard about this rumor yet, but i think it is possible that Hun Sen want to break away from CPP and create another party because it looks like his days are numbered, other cpp don't want him as pm anymore.
i don't think it is a good idea to follow daddy's footstep, although, this is a beautiful family with smart children and parents. perhaps, the younger generation can do something else as cambodia do need smart people to help contribute to our country's development and prosperity. perhaps a teaching job or some other in gov't beside prime ministerial position is a good possibility. cambodia does not want to waste such a talented and smart family like that as long as they want to help cambodia to do better in all fields in reforms, etc... and this goes with any other smart, talented cambodian family as well. i don't have any problem with them as long as they wanted to help to make cambodia a better place for all to enjoy. this is my personal opinion only. god bless cambodia.
11:47PM, this info is not very public, but i have heard a little bit about it. hun sen doesn't trust anyone now, not even hok lundy and sok an. sok an has the command of hun sen's bodyguard units at toul krosaing and got a lot of followings in the govt. bureaucracy and hun sen is jealous and scared of his double-crossing later. hun sen doesn't trust these people but he needs them and they need him, so they have to just work together and watch out for some wrong moves from either sides.
WHEN i see this picture. ALL i can say is " WHAT A DISASTER " in the making !
that look like a SVAR FAMILY TO ME.
Looks 100 times better than Ah Khmer-Yuon to me.
