Land Crisis in Cambodia: Evictees' Testimonies

Source: Licadho

September 9, 2009 - In the past 5 years LICADHO has documented cases of land grabbing that have affected more than a quarter of a million Cambodians. The rampant land grabbing has seriously undermined the development of Cambodia, depriving entire communities of their livelihoods and dignity.

This video was shown on September 10, 2009, during the US Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission Hearing on Cambodia.

That is Hun Sen's good plan. The more Khmer people are made homeless, the more Yuons can have those pieces of land and can vote for Hun Sen.

This is so sad to see that the Government is so cruel to its own people, let alone the regular people the hired from off the streets to take part in this. This just means that we are our own DESTRUCTION. Just sad to watch how the military, police, regular civilians (hired) can have such an empty heart toward its own people. You would never see Thai military beat their own people during the riots. They showed much restraint. And yet our dysfunctional society in Cambodia lacks Human Compassion.

According to the interviews of the evictees, the authorities were very brutle against the evictees, why LICADHO only show still pictures of the evictions, why don't they show live videos of the evictions, are they hidding somehting or may be LICADHO told those people what to say, before they interview them, just to make the authorities look bad?. Why LICADHO did not said anything about the offered compensation leading to the evictions or about why they were evicted?
