The Royal Cambodian Government takes great exception to the article which appeared in the Bangkok Post on January 18, 2010 under the headline: In spat with 'Siem'. Hun Sen needs Hanoi in his corner." it is a very serious damaging article which I totally refute.
The allegation that Cambodia's Foreign Minister Hor Nam Hong, Cambodia's Ambassador to Thailand, Mrs You Ah and myself is of "Vietnamese lineage" is totally and utterly false and potentially defamatory.
The approach to foreign policy by Cambodia, initiated by Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, already being implemented by Foreign Minister Hor Namhong; to forge constructive relationships with all nations, big or small, based on mutual trust and respect of the Cambodian’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and, the respect, without condition, of the verdict of the International Court of Justice concerning the issue of the Preah Vihear Temple in – 15 June 1962.
Publishing such false information as if it is fact does no credit to the Bangkok Post and not only damages the credibility of your newspaper, but also the reputation of Thailand on the international stage.
On behalf of the three persons named, I demand that your newspaper either substantiates the claims made in the offending article or publishes an immediate retraction and apology.
I appreciate if the content of this letter could be broadly circulated.

History 101- Part one
ReplyDeleteThe performance of Vietnam’s current expansionism in Indochina is a result of its Strategic Southward Move. In the space of a few hundreds years, Vietnam had managed to built its Empire through successive annexations and new forms of colonization.
Not only the Fundamental Rights of People annexed [Cham, Montagnards (Mien, Mnong, Koho, Jarai, Degar), Hmong and Khmer Krom] – representing in 1998-99 more than 13% of Vietnam’s total population[1] - or placed under Vietnam’s control (Cambodian and Laotian) are ignored and violated but South East Asia’s security order may also be threatened by Vietnam’s hegemonic ambitions. That is why this expansionism performed by this country constitutes a real danger for the regional and international security.
Based on the Cambodian case, this paper tries to analyse the strategies implemented by Vietnam for its expansionist process and assesses its consequences on the regional and international security.
Annexion – Indigenous People – Strategic Manipulations - Violation of Self Determination Rights – Hegemonic Ambitions – Threat for Regional Security Order.
Vietnam is considered as one of the most expansionist countries in Asia. In the space of a few hundreds years, this country has evolved from its small cradle located in the Delta of Tonkin to become a tentacular Empire. Its expansionist - annexionist process is often known under the following metaphor: “the Long March Towards the South”. Because of this long March some countries were simply transformed into a province of Vietnam (Champa) and other are becoming, like Cambodia, the victim of its expansionist policy.
As mentioned above, Cambodia is not the only victim of this conquest policy. In the past, the Kingdom of Champa (the Centre of current Vietnam) and Kampuchea Krom (currently South Vietnam) were totally annexed. And Lao PDR is currently facing the same problems as Cambodia. But due to time constraint only the Cambodian case is analyzed in this communication.
The aim of this paper is to analyze Vietnam’s strategies implemented in this southward expansion, and to assess the implications for the Regional Security Order in Southeast Asia.

ReplyDeletepeople have to say somethings whether there is evidence to back up. those who are in higher position officials of the government have to learn to deal with these comments by coming out to explain, making counter comments, prove the evidence, and stands by their words.
There are some evidences there that people have believed that the current government is served VN interest and subdue to VN demand.
Not to blame and criticize, it seems there are no problems in Cambodia-VN. Do people in Cambodia not just opposition party think that VN love and care Cambodia honestly? anyone can answer this question truly.
VN came to Cambodia to kick Pol Pot out because not that VN care about Cambodian people were being killed by Pol Pot, but because VN could not stand the fact that pol pot always raged battles along VN border villages, damaged Vietnamses properties, killed hundred but not thousands VN people. And the fact that VN has a group of Khmer Rouge defectors are willing to cooperate with the plan to invade Cambodia. YES, VN came to Cambodia was on the right time and right place, when Cambodian were desparated looking whoever came even we were thinking VN is a long time archivous enemy of Cambodia.
I bet 100 % if Cambodian people guarrantee freedom to express without afraid of arrest, they will say that VN take advantage over Cambodia and some of Cambodia' land at the border has been lost to VN.
But who dare to say these things? look at a good example of half dozen people in Svay Reang.

who cares where people were born as long as the love and care and speak and know khmer language fluently, etc... in this day and age, skin color and religion background does not matter anymore. we welcome everybody, all it takes is to love and care and speak khmer fluent to some extent, really! we want everybody in the world to help make a real difference in cambodia. the world is colorless nowadays, really!god bless.
