“18 March 1970: it was 40 years ago that Cambodia descended into war. 18 March 2010: 40 years later, Cambodia is at peace and development is taking shape throughout the country,” this is what PM Hun Xen declared on Thursday morning during the inauguration of a stretch of road from Bankung to O’Yadaw in Ratanakiri province.

Hun Xen said directly that the inauguration of this stretch of road was not by accident, but it was intentionally done to tell the world that 40 years earlier and 40 years later, Cambodia is different.

Hun Xen recalled the historical event leading to the toppling of then-Prince Norodom Sihanouk by Marshall Lon Nol. Hun Xen also scolded Lon Nol, saying that this event led Cambodia and its people into destruction.
--------
KI-Media Note: Did Hun Xen forget that he was part of the KR regime which was one the main character in the destruction of Cambodia also? As the saying goes: “Don’t throw rocks when you live in a glass house”!

I believe it is wrong and mischievous to write or say that "Did Hun Sen forget that he was part of the KR regime which was one of the main character in the destruction of Cambodia?"

At the time of the Lon Nol "coup", Sihanouk called on all the people to resist Lon Nol, and many Cambodians followed that call and joined the KR. A very young Hun Sen was one of countless others who did so.

They did so believing in Sihanouk. What none of them knew at the time was that Sihanouk was not in real charge of the resistance. Pol Pot was secretly plotting in the background to control the movement, and ruthlessly purge all the good Cambodians who did not follow Pol Pot's extremist policies.

Hun Sen, like the others, were tricked. When they realized that, to their great credit, they turned against the KR, and worked tirelessly to bring Pol Pot's genocidal policies to an end.

I am sure Hun Sen does not forget his earlier involvement with the KR. But we should all be thankful that he, and many others, saw the light and overthrew Pol Pot.

Let's us not forget that today!

Cambodia is at peace, 40 years later? Oh please, Mr premier...you are losing your mind sir.

You forget to say that January 7th 1979 was the date that the viet invaded Cambodia. Also, you didn't say King Sihanouk created the Pol Pot's communist party. But you cleverly selected March 18th 1970 as the date Cambodia was led into war. Is this some sort of your political propaganda?

HS was a soldier during the KR regime. He wasn't part of the KR central committee who make policy and run the country.

Those top leadership are responsible for destruction of Cambodia and the death of her people.

HS was also a victim like the rest of us. He was forced to work in the rice field, persecuted, his young baby died during Pol Pot.

The KR want to kill him too, so he run to VN to form Kampuchea Liberation Front and with the help of the VN troop, they toppled the KR regime and saved millions of Cambodian from sure death.

So give blame or credit where it due.

    1. Depending on your point of view, the Viet (at the request of, and with the assistance of, Cambodians!) "liberated Cambodia from Pol Pot" not "invaded Cambodia".

    2. He didn't say that Sihanouk 'created the Pol Pot's communist party'....for the simple reason that he did not!!! Sihanouk (like Hun Sen and countless other Cambodians) was tricked into believing that Sihanouk controlled the resistance to Lon Nol. Meanwhile, the secretive Pol Pot was quietly building his own power by purging all who did agree with him.

Hun Sen was a soldier, not Khmer Rouge leadership in central committee who make policy and run the country. Those top leaders are the one who cause death and destruction to Cambodia.

HS was also a KR victim like the rest of us. He was forced to work in rice field, persecuted, one of his baby son died during the KR.

The KR want to kill him too, so he run to VN to form Kampuchea Liberation Front to topple the KR regime.

As the result, he saved millions of Cambodian from sure death in the hand of the KR cruel regime.

See the truth, speak the truth. Give blame or credit where it due.

Lon Nol & Sirik Matak didn't have to overthrow Sihanouk if it wasn't for you ah thmil Hun Sen and your Khmer Rouge. Just like the Vietcongs, you were part of the problem.
ah Hun Sen, you were part of the problem in 1975, in 1979, in 1993, in 1997 & 98, and still today. So next time you scold somebody, take a look in the mirror and scold that person, you retard of a prime minister ah Samdech ach moha pleur.

Lon Nol and Sisowath Sirimatak were true nationalists, unlike the ever-selfish play boy and the thug characters. They just did not have right time and right opportunity behind their causes since the US dishonorably disengaged from their committment to the allies. Lessons learned for Khmers.

And now, look who is trying to get in bed with his former enemy...shamelessly

don't be fooled with the current cosmetically staged monarchy. Cambodia has been a republic since 18 March 1970.
