Governor Kep Chuktema Keeps Post: PM Hun Sen

By Yun Samean
THE CAMBODIA DAILY

Prime Minister Hun Sen on Monday denied rumors and media reports that the government is planning to remove Phnom Penh Governor Kep Chuktema. In a speech delivered at a graduation ceremony at the Royal University of Law and Economics, Hun Sen warned that newspapers will undermine their credibility if they continue to make such claims about the future of the city's governor. "People will stop believing in you," he said. "If we wanted to reshuffle we would not wait for two weeks of rumors.... It would only take two days to remove [the governor]," Hun Sen said. He also urged Kep Chuktema to ignore the rumors and continue with his work as usual. Contacted on Monday, Kep Chuktema declined to comment.

This is one of the worst problem facing today. Hun Sen has too much in removing anyone he likes. That is a sign of a military ruling country. Any one dare to criticise him will face death thread by arm force or police force. We must chnage this culture of arrogant of Hun sen by removing his power from a totallitarist into a moderated democracy where the PM has only power to remove his ministers only.

If the King has the courage to exercise his constitutional power and refuse to sign the Prime Minister's request for the replacement of the public officials, whose positions are appointed by the Royal Decree, then Hun Sen will be unable to remove the appointed officials at will. The fact that Hun Sen is able to do that makes those officials feel afraid to fall out of favour with him. Therefore, they try to make as much money as possible to please Hun Sen and his family instead of working in the interests of the nation.

This looks more like the water testing exercise initiated by Hun Sen to assess the public reaction and the current Governor's reaction to the rumour. Sooner or later, that lucrative position is going to be awarded to his brother Hun Nen. The plan is already in the making, and Hun Sen just needs a credible excuse to implement it. Watch out Keup Eth Meta!

Hun Sen cannot remove Kep Chetma because this later is marrying with Hun Sen former wife.

This is purely a military ruling country. Hun Sen can do whatever he wants, thus, Cambodia don't need a parlamentary system to make the rule of law. Those senators who represent the people in the national assembly look like monkeys in the cage. They do it just to show the world that Cambodia is practicing democracy. Hun Sen Sdach Korn revisited Cambodia of the 21th century.

I have to agree with all the previous posters about Hun Sen using his totalitarian power to do as he pleases.

If the governor is elected, then no single authority, should be able to remove him, unless it is by some decree. One man going around and removing people whenever he pleases is not a democracy, but rather a dictatorship. Cambodia needs new, fresh, young faces in the political arena. The status quo, full of old corrupt officials can never bring Cambodia from the verge of a third rate nation.
